"Some people might feel that this behaviour is a little out-of-character, but in my opinion it humanises Peter, putting him in a situation that many of his adult readers will be able to relate to, and emphasising his status as the everyman of the Marvel Universe as a result."
You know what? I'm going to say it. You know the Peter I could relate to? The responsible guy who married the woman he loved and kept trying to be the best human being he could be and kept being a superhero even when most people hated his superhero identity.
You want a terrific example of "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" Marvel? Here's one for ya. How about a Peter Parker who's married to a gorgeous woman who loves him, has a fairly successful job, and is generally doing pretty good at life. And yet he still risks life and limb, night after night, protecting a city that pretty much hates him. Because he has great powers. And it's the responsible thing to do.
A Peter that gets so roaring drunk that he can't remember if he irresponsibly slept with his roommate? Yeah, can't relate to that in the slightest.
