See, I agree with everything you're saying, but the problem is, Marvel thinks that Peter isn't Peter unless he's a FAILURE.

What makes it even more insulting - and even more troubling, given Quesada's frequently voiced opinion about how he needs to be able to identify with the character - is that they believe making Peter a total fuck-up in all areas of his life makes him MORE like his fans.
