Well, good on Mark Millar, and a big middle finger to "Marvel", whoever that actually means in this context (probably Big Daddy Joey Q, but I suppose it could be all kinds of people). It boggles my mind that the powers-that-be could object to a character being more identifiable and unique, but I guess that's big business.
And, I have to admit, the boots thing makes sense. Once he stopped being totally crazy (which he obviously did, at some point; Millar may have wanted to maintain the hooves, but there's no denying he totally changed Van Damme's voice from Ellis's version) I can see Victor being vain enough to have specially-constructed boots made to hide his "deformity". I'd love for that to be brought up at some point; Doom is at home relaxing, and he lowers his hood, takes off his gauntlets, removes his boots to wiggle his hoof-tips...
