One page from Wonder Woman #34

T. O. Morrow tells Wonder Woman that Genocide is broken but still alive, and that Dr. Psycho won't quit until he can repair it.

As much as I do enjoy these panels on this page (as a way to redeem T.O.Morrow), it has been posted before....

And Dr. Morrow has achieved Woobie status.

Whoda thunk it?

Also, if I ever get to write a Red Tornado, I am so having a (semi) reformed Red Tornado move in with John and his human family (and find a way to give John's daughter super powers).

I really hope this doesn't lead to her running into the Super Young Team. Dr. Light would be good, but not the Super Young Team.

No, you're wrong. If there's anyone I trust as much as Grant Morrison with Grant Morrison ideas, it's Gail.

No, you're wrong. If there's anyone I trust less with Grant Morrison ideas than Grant Morrison, it's...well...I guess I don't trust anyone with Grant Morrison ideas as long as their Grant Morrison ideas.

Alright, I'll give you that. And his run on JLA. But unless Gail makes them not a bunch of annoying Japan/anime stereotypes I'm not interested, which is going to be tough since that seems to be their basic character.

For me it's the opposite. The team are amateurishly funny, like the Inferior Five, and interestingly conflicted with their media image, like the pre-CW New Warriors. With Hoshi, I'min the same camp as Jamal Igle; the character is just bland and uninteresting.

Bear in mind that this is my own opinion, but it's one that I think is valid and needs to be expressed. Dr Light II might have a fanbase, but that doesn't mean she's an at all compelling or intriguing character. Plenty of terrible ideas have fanbases. Jason Todd has a fanbase.

Come on, it's TO Morrow. He's always been a waffler anyway, and if you really think this is going to last a month past when Gail stops using him, you haven't been reading comics very long.

Plus he was already kind of veering towards being at least neutral all the way back in 52 with his friendship with Dr Magnus of Metal Man fame.

I remember him being quite pleased when Tomorrow Woman developed free will despite it screwing up something he and Ivo were doing big time.

But as soon as he has another idea he'll use it.

To be fair, this is from Morrow's pov, shich could easily be biased. Just because Morrow thinks that Supes looks down on him, doesn't make it true. It just means that Wondy is better than Supes at showing her care clearly.

I usually love Lopresti's art, but...

when this was posted before (with other pages), I couldn't help noticing that Morrow looks as much like Steel as any two Byrne characters.

Morah: Means Female Teacher. (Or fear verging on awe). Generally, a girl's first name. In hebrew. Not familiar with it as a last name.

Well, I know some people whose last name is Moreh, which is an alternate spelling of the same word. They aren't Jewish, interestingly.

From context, he's either Jewish or Polish. Dunno. (It's also a spelling variant of an Irish name.)

I didn't say it wasn't a last name, just that I wasn't familiar with it. (awwwww. Poochie face icon! Here, have a poochie face. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/LaPucelle/kaylonloom.jpg )
So is he supposed to be Polish or Polish Jewish or Polish Gypsy? I'm _assuming_ Jewish, but I'm not going to assume too strongly till someone says. And I kind of like 'terror verging on awe' as a last name for someone who creates new types of life.

I still think that the whole 'men on Paradise Island / Polly going Babies! Babies! Babies! / closet line in this issue' thing is all a ongoing narrative with something that will have meaning in the end, myself.

... You know, you could actually write a decent comic about the crew and stagehands of an underground fighting ring. Something like Rival Angels (a webcomic) with superpowers. It'd _probably_ have to be a little less lethal, eg people die, it's unfortunate, but not the intended goal type thing.

It really depends on how you play it.

Oh. One critically important thing. When I said "You know, you could actually write a decent comic about the crew and stagehands of an underground fighting ring.", I did not mean you _should_, or that I was referring to you, Gail. I was using the 'you' in the sense of 'one could'.

I'd think you specifically should _not_ write one for DC, at least in the tone I see it, because it would overlap significantly with Secret Six's tone and interactions. Not that you'd do poorly (the opposite, in fact), just that they'd probably wind up being similar. (If you do so, or have done so and it has not been published, I note that I copyleft all claims I have on the concept, god knows it's not new, and have no standing for any stupid 'fangirl claims author stole her idea' complaints. (end boilerplate))

I was just thing about Secret Six and Marvel's version of the fighting ring (Thing comics, the Grapplers: Songbird being a survivor of that plotline.)

I think I'm going to post something to noscansdaily about underground fighting rings and comics and superheroes. It shows up _all over the place_. Soon I Will Be Invincible, the Dog Pound in Blue Beetle, here... I think it's because it gives a chance for interaction before and after fights, and even during fights, because the fight isn't a desperate struggle, but rather a goal in and of itself. The fight scenes themselves can challenge artists in a different way, as they seek to tell a different sort of story.

Has Morrow always been this interesting? I first saw him in the Tomorrow Woman story, and thought he was just some mad scientist with a stupid name that got dusted off for a new story.

Then there's some more depth and nuance revealed in 52, and now this.

I always thought he was one of the more complex DC mad scientists, and I think a lot of writers agree.

We'll be seeing more of him very soon!

Yeah. For one thing, he's one of the few DC Mad Scientists actually interested in SCIENCE!!!! FOR SCIENCE!!!!

Also, he doesn't care about crime and "Evuls" so much as making the best machine he can.

At least nowadays. Back when his schtick was "Future Crimes, Today! BEFORE They're Illegal!" he was just as generic as the others.
