Entry tags:char: robin/nightwing/dick grayson, title: batman the brave and the bold

The OTHER DCAU Robin... well, robin at any rate.

Years ago, in Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew, they visited Earth C-Minus, a world where the Justta Lotta Animals were the pre-eminent heroes. One member was Batmouse (Who is this rodent of mystery? Is he a bat? Is he a mouse? He'll never tell) and his sidekick was the "One panel and you'll miss him"; Boyd, the Robin Wonder.

However, in the criminally underappreciated "Krypto the Superdog" series there is actually a Robin analogue too! A young bird rescued from certain doom at the paws of the Joker's criminally inclined hyena's by Ace the Bat-Hound. Developing a severe case of hero worship and takes on the identity of Robbie the Robin, to assist the unwilling... make that EXTREMELY unwilling Bat-Hound. The little birdie is so eager to please that Ace is terrified of him, Ace eventually cons his stalker sidekick into asking every pigeon for assistance in locating the Hyenas base and whilst he's out doing that, running like hell for Metropolis to hide in Krypto's doghouse of solitude)

I ask you, how could he be scared by bird with a cute little beak like that?

He has all the making of a proper Robin too... He's eager, happy, brave, resourceful

And appears to be developing the tendency to get tied up a lot too (In fairness, at this point in his second adventure, Isis had already captured Krypto, Ace and Streaky the Supercat.

And of course, it ends with our brave little birdie being the hero... You can just TELL how pleased by that Ace is, can't you? :)

Oh, and for legality, and for those who think that Nightwing can't get any cuter, here he is in a form where you can scratch him behind the ears AND tickle his tummy and he'd really, REALLY like it! :) I just can't quite work out his name, Nighthound seems too... obvious, the names of the Justa Lotta Animals were usually a lot cleverer (and sillier) than that; Green Lambkin, Zappanda, Firestork....

</a>

Oh, and late news about Brave and the Bold from Comics Continuum

Paul Dini has written "Chill of the Night!," the episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold that was touched upon at Comic-Con International last weekend.

Voices in the episode include Adam West as Thomas Wayne, Julie Newar as Martha Wayne, Kevin Conroy as the Phantom Stranger and Mark Hamill as The Spectre.

Diedrich Bader, who provides the voice of Batman, said that Batman gets "a sense of closure" and that recording the episode actually made him cry

Sweet! :)

At that point, all you can do is put down the pencil and walk away. Your work here is done.

Has Cartoon Network been jerking their scheduling around? The last few weeks, Fridays have been used for them to debut their not-very-good-looking live-action stuff, and this Friday (the 31st) is some kind of "Christmas in July" thing with (gag) "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" among the crap (also the Billy & Mandy and Foster's specials, but their goodness is cancelled out by the shitty stuff).

Their not-very-good-looking live-action stuff tanked. Hard.

Retreaded reruns of bad old cartoons apparently did two to three times better than this "CN Real" stuff.

So Cartoon Network is scrambling.

Originally, they were keeping BBATB until mid-August to make room for the reality shows and stuff. Now they're waiting because it'll be nearer to sweeps.

There's no verifiable proof of this, just a bunch of internet pinheads taking what is known and analyzing the stuffing out of it. Why is there no verifiable proof?

Because CN isn't publishing the new shows' ratings.

Could it be? Is it possible they're realizing that people tuning in to a channel called 'Cartoon Network' actually want to see (gasp) cartoons?

Honestly, I'm just hoping that this scramble for programming will lead them to bring back at least reruns of the shows I enjoyed watching. (Funimation's One Piece dub was good, darn it! And the ratings were climbing!)

I just can't quite work out his name, Nighthound seems too... obvious

Nightwoof. I'd go with "Nighthowl" but woof keeps the initials the same, and howl is reserved for if Watchmen ever gets an Earth-C/C- analogue.

Also:

. . . There was an issue of DCAU tie-in Batman Adventures (or New Batman adventures, or Gotham Adventures . . . .) with the Phantom Stranger that showed Batman, in "It's A Wonderful Life" style, what it would've been like if his parents weren't murdered. It was intriguing and tragic. However, earlier and better was "To Kill A Legend!" from the late 70s, one of the greatest Batman stories EVER TOLD, where Batman is sent by the Stranger to an alternate Earth approx. 20~ish years behind Earth-1's timeline, where the night of the Wayne murder is fast approaching. Bats and Robin do some investigating (where they learn that Bruce was an utter BRAT when he was a kid, and that there is apparently absolutely no heroic fiction of any kind--but there is detective fiction, hmm--and no Atlantis, no Krypton, seemingly no chance for any other heroes at all, so if they prevent the Wayne murder, they may be depriving this world of it's only potential hero!) Bruce makes his decision and saves the Waynes, and goes home, and Robin is left to wonder if it may have been better to let this world have a Batman . . . . and the epilogue shows that the little bratty Brucey of this world was so moved by the mysterious stranger saving his family, that he's still inspired to become Batman!

This "Chill of the Night!" has some stiff competition.

Unless they're more than riffing on "To Kill A Legend!" They've already established multiple alternate Earths . . . .

"Nightwoof" works for me!

The DCAU story is a good one, and it shows what happened to the likes of Dick and Tim as a result of there NOT being a Batman, it's not a happy story.

"To Kill a Legend" is wonderful, and I hope they don't actually follow it because B&tB has earned the right to have it's own story.

And battles/lands on the the Bizarro Planet.
