Gordon is more-or-less blithely accepting this new Batman, despite the fact that he has expressed bitterness in the past over 'just how many Batmen ARE there?', etc., etc.

He was frustrated more by the fact that the Batmen were pretending to be HIS Batman, which was another irritation in Prodigal. I've always said Dick having a line when meeting Gordon in the Batcostume for the first time in Prodigal like "You trusted me when I wore a red tunic, you trusted me when I wore a yellow strip across my chest. Trust me when I'm wearing this" would have been the sane, sensible and all but polite thing to do. But instead Dick pretends to be Bruce's Batman which doesn't fool Gordon for a moment and pisses him off.

(Oh, and - random thought I just had. Dick's having problems training Damian to be Robin, right? 'Cause the kid's a little snot, and won't listen to him. Well, here's an idea - why not bring in Bane to help train him?

Because A) That wouldn't sort out Dick and Damian's fundamental differences, and solving them will be much better as a long term improvement on their partnership, B) Bane is a psychopathic lunatic and C) Bane is a psychopathic lunatic (I know I mentioned that last one twice, but its important enough to warrant it I feel)

and, more importantly, the kid's main concern is fighting skills - he thinks Dick's a lousy teacher because he focuses on tactics instead of violence. Well, Bane BROKE HIS FATHER'S BACK, and he used both muscles AND tactics to do it. If that doesn't cool the kid down a bit, nothing will.)

Holding Bane up as a role model for ANYTHING in the Batverse is about as good an idea as plywood batarangs.

Are you counting Bane's post Knightfall appearances? He's fairly,easy-going in Secret Six right now.

Exactly - he's evolved into a fairly complex character. He's still hard-edged enough to whip the little snot into shape, but he's got enough of a conscience (and enough fondness for the Bats) to not abuse the privilege.

I like him in Secret Six, but let's not assume the Bats foster the same fondness for him as he does for them!

I don't think that they're FOND of him, but he has worked with them often enough by this point that I think they'd trust him enough to ask for a cautious favor. I mean, he knows all of their identities and hasn't taken any criminal advantage of that knowledge - that should say something.
