Golden Age Wonder Woman: The Origin
Well, the next post in my archives is from Wonder Woman #1, 1942, which somebody else already handled quite well here. I'll just repost one panel which seriousfic also posted, which I found especially amusing.
Believe me, horse, everyone reading this knows exactly how you feel.
On to the next post. In Wonder Woman #1, published in 1942, the story of her origin is retold.
My friend grey_bard pointed out that Wonder Woman's Golden Age origin is almost like a reverse slash fic: everyone's rather baffled at Diana's interest in a man.
And here we have the very first death of Steven Trevor. I don't know how many times he died in all, but I'd like to do a collection of them. I swear that once he died and came back to life twice in one issue.
I've figured it out. What it is, the DC stories take place on a planet that in many ways resembles Earth, but the laws of biology are different in one important way: if you put anything around your eyes, whether the frames of glasses or a mask, it causes your eyes to emit these rays that affect the eyesight of everyone who sees you, totally confounding their ability to recognize you.
I included this one mainly for the typical Marston name for the fat Amazon. Also, of course, notice that lassoing each other is a major Amazon sport.
Hypolyte, perhaps we should have a talk about "enabling". Anyway, I think most men would obey Diana anyway.
Steve Trevor is always after Wonder Woman to marry him. Does he really know what he'd be getting himself into?
Allow me to paraphrase one of Dave Barry's gags. Situation: You are a German Nazi spy in 1942. You are in San Francisco. Your name is Heinrich Fritz Uber. Do you: a) go by the name "John Smith". b) use your real name. c) set fire to your own hair. Answer: Either "b" or "c".
