The Indigo Language
The only fact we know for certain is that the ring is programmed with every known language in the Universe. If the ring is therefore unable to translate a language, there are several reasons why this may be:
- The language may predate the existence of the Green Lantern Corps to such a degree that it was either unknown or thought extinct by the time the rings were made. The only flaw in this theory is that the Indigo Lanterns seem perfectly comfortable speaking intelligible languages when they wish to, showing that they have had at least some interaction with the Universe at large.
- The indigo lanterns could be from the future which would neatly explain how they can speak a language the ring does not know but also know other languages. The only problem with this theory is that the Green Lantern Corps have a fair understanding of the future and are capable of time travel. Indigo-1 also makes references to events in the GL's relative past.
- As another poster has suggested, they could be from a pre-Crisis alternate universe.
- The language could simply have evolved in isolation from the rest of the Universe and never come to the GL's attention.
- The Indigo Lanterns have shown themselves to be able to manipulate other Lanterns' rings. Their presence may have knowingly or unknowingly tampered with the functioning of the porcine Green Lantern's ring in some way.
- The GLC may have intentionally omitted this language from their database either because they thought it was extinct (see above), because they found it useful to have a language at their disposal that no one else could understand or perhaps more interestingly because this language is in fact their native tongue so they had no need to include it for translation as they already knew it.
- The ring may indeed be familiar with the language in question but may have lacked some frame of reference that was necessary for a full translation such as speed, tone or since the Indigo was asking a question, might require a set response in the same language before being fully translatable.
