The New Digs

Four scans from Mighty Avengers #27.

Last issue ended by promising to unveil a new Avengers HQ; while Quicksilver and USAgent are off investigating some Inhumans-related business, everybody else takes a look at the new base.

This segment begins with the team (most of it, anyway) still standing in what looks like the old HQ; Cassie notes that this may just be a blonde moment, but things don't look that different.  Herc agrees.  Hank beckons everybody through one of the doors...

I'm not sure that look of imperious malevolence is the best way to keep your disguise, Loki (though that's well in keeping with his actions in Thor, I suppose, where he walks around like a cackling supervillain and nobody noticed until it was far too late).

Ok, just to set the record firmly crooked. There are now three teams running around calling themselves the Avengers now, and the only registered one is headed by Norman Osborn?

And the only one legally and correctly one is this one. Yep. (Hey, they _do_ have a charter. I have a copy somewhere.)

Didn't the New Warriors/Counter-Force in Avengers: the Initiative change their name to Avengers Resistance?

"I'm not sure that look of imperious malevolence is the best way to keep your disguise, Loki"

Why is Loki diguising himself as Scarlett witch in the first place?

"Okay, who to disguise myself as? Oh I know! The crazy reality warping bitch who singlehandedly killed off the last avengers team she was on, made Magneto the retroactive king of the world, and then depowered 99% of the worlds mutants. That will SURELY make them trust me."

Brilliant Loki. I mean really, Kudos to you. It takes real effort to FUBAR up a plan that badly. There's no way anyone fucks up like that on purpose.

To be fair, it allows him to use a great deal of his power without threatening to reveal his true identity. In addition, the Avengers might want to keep an eye on and possibly redeem Wanda, thus tolerate her hanging around (not like they have the ability to make her go away). Plus, they wouldn't expect much of an agenda from Wanda, thus covering Loki.

It's not perfect, but it's not that big a screw-up now that all the heroes are fractured. It's more like 'the best he could do'.

Slott referred to it in interviews as a brilliant disguise precisely because nobody would expect anyone of wanting to usurp that mantle. Gives him freedom to act super-mysterious. Of course, it's a high-wire game, but the basic principle is one.

Self-cleaning, huh?

So occasionally the inside of this strange, way-too-over-the-top mansion will heat up to its maximum temperature, scorching out the meatbag infestation foreign contaminants?

Soo... Jocasta has a near infinite number of bodies, a good deal of which seem to look an awful lot like Janet van Dyne.
Nope. That is not creepy at all.

Appearance is fleeting, it won't be really creepy until she gets schizophrenic over whether she's holding a grudge or not for a few decades.

Her brain is still an awful lot like Janet's. She even uses this fact to insult Cassie last issue by saying she could claim with upmost confidence that were Janet still there, she would say that Cassie's acting like a whiney brat. Then she goes off and snogs Hank two panels later. There's no limit to Jocasta's creepy.

Can't wait to see how this place is going to be trashed every other month. I mean it happen to the X-Men, Justice League, Teen Titans, SUperman's Fortress, Themascyra(sp?), the Bat-Cave, any where Banner was hiding, anything else to the list?
