Which makes it precisely so stupid, because it makes Hudlin's T'Challa look so fucking weak.
A refusal to ever give even the slightest bit isn't strength, it's actually a sign of insecurity and fear. Hudlin's T'Challa doesn't back down for anybody because the moment he does, he will have LOST, and a single loss is the same thing as losing forever. Should he give even a millimeter, he will have nothing left.
The T'Challa of the past didn't care about making compromises, because he had a confidence, pride, and respect for himself that Hudlin does not understand or comprehend. Giving a little wasn't a loss for him... it was just giving a little.
I think Eddie Murphy said, in Coming To America, something to the effect of "But father, if they do not throw flower petals at my feet, I will still be prince." Hudlin, and Hudlin's T'Challa, does not understand the concept that being King is supposed to be who he is, not what he has or can do.
