It does amuse me regarding the parallels between Dr Doom and Hudlin's Black Panther. Both being superpowered totalitarian monarches who rule their countries with an iron fist and are far more technologically advanced than the outside world.
The thing is though that Latverian dores attempt to have trade or business dealings with the outside world, except they are frowned against a lot of the time being Doom is well... a supervillain.
I think that there was an Iron Man story were Tony fired a Stark empolyee for opening a trade agreement with Doom, except I can't remember the name unfortunately.
But on the opposite side of the spectrum, they have a country run by a superhero who has a lot of the same advancements of Latverian (though Latveria's aren't really avaliable to the general population according to some writers) except THEY won't deal with the outside world out of a sense of pride.
There was even a case, though I don't have the scans, of BP turning down a blank cheque from the world's governments for some sort of trading agreement between BP's country and the outside world, except he turned them down out of his huge sense of arrogance.
Honestly, these days Wanaka only has one major export: huge steaming piles of Smug. And they tend to view their war-torn, AIDs ridden neighbours with the same patronising attitude as people from the West have, meaning well but not helping much (if at all) unless absolutely pushed.
