I am looking for...
Comic art that recreates or references famous paintings and sculptures, like the Wolverine Art Appreciation covers, or this page by Roberto De La Torre. Help me SDers, you're my only hope! (Ok, not my only hope, but help me anyway).

There's a couple in Legion of Superheroes, during the Giffen/Bierbaum runs.

I can't find the scan I had of the Last Supper (from issue 1 or 2, IIRC), but here's the Birth of Adam, from the Great Darkness Saga.

The Last Supper pic -- of the LSV, if we're on the same page -- is from one of the first Baxter issues of Levitz/Giffen, so v3 #1 or #2.

Yes, a nitpick, but I'm one of those for whom "Bierbaum" functions as an emetic.

Also the cover of Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 seems spun from the same cloth as Michelangelo's Pietà, and we've seen that Crisis cover references/parodied more ways than I can count....

Also my Pietà HTML is borked. Sigh. I give up; I think everybody downthread's already got'cha covered.

Great question, though.

wow, looking at some of those names, I keep thinking someone should have done " Legion of Super Villains as antimatter LOSH " by now.

(Sun Emperor? Chameleon Chief? A Daxamite? What, is Polar Lord hanging out off screen?)

Pretty much in some cases. Esper Lass is also from Titan, Lightning Lord from Winath (being Lightning Lad's brother), Micro Lad from Imsk and so on. You NEEDED characters with broadly the same powersets to be a real challenge to as varied a team as the Legion.

Yay, sankyuu.

One thing that I like about this one - unlike most Last Supper references in comics, this has the right number of people - most usually only have 6 or 7.
