The Reformation of Paula von Gunther
These are from Wonder Woman #3, 1943. This is when the reformation of Baroness Paula von Gunther begins. I suspect Marston just decided on the spur of the moment to reform her, because the motivation he gives her seems totally unconvincing in light of everything she's done up till now.
"Good work, girl friend"?
Either Paula was smoking - with the cigarette holder - in the wrapping, or else Wonder Woman is considerately giving her a light the minute she's unwrapped. I have never encountered a more dedicated smoker in my life.
Neither of the above two scans needs any comment from me, I think.
And now the reason Paula has spent years enslaving girls, spying, and killing people is revealed: Okay, so they forced you to be a spy and all, but did they specify that you acquire dozens of nubile slave girls for yourself?
Etta Candy, strategian.
Wonder Woman rescues Gerta and reunites her with Paula. Yay!
