Starro the... Ares?
so, REBELS.

basically, Brainiac 2's automated space police force has been subverted by a mysterious entity, leading him to... do stuff like turn one of the current-day members of Dawnstar's people into a bootleg Wildfire.

but who did it?

slightly more autonomous members of a collective.... huh, now I just remembered Annihilation.

the little girl's a durlan, because durlans apparently love to parley while wearing nonthreatening forms, or something. and it's shooting at flying brick lady because vril dox either dying or getting a starfish accessory doesn't quite jive with their plans.

and no, astrild doesn't get unstarro'd by that.

but if " That is not my master ", then what is?

oh. okay, that works. the starfishes among the ships are what really make it, though. FEAR THIS ENTITY WHO COMMANDS A COLLECTIVE OF CONTROLLED MISCELLANEOUS ENTITIES AND HAS SPACE STARFISH!

I guess it's a WE'VE NEVER MET BRAINIAC BEFORE UNTIL NOW kinda thing, which is... I dunno, kinda cool that some dude goes about conquering the stars with space starfish. Either that, or this is a new form for him, I guess.

and so the dominators get dominated.

meanwhile...

well, so Starro is that dude. cool.

bonus: in superman/batman generations, jonathan kent cripples the ultra-humanite! but in his defense, the future ape-man was about to totally kill a young less-durable superboy and a... young, fox-costume-wearing bruce wayne. yeah.

he's a handy man with a shotgun, isn't he?

boy, the things you can do with imaginary stories.

Nope, I prefer Starro as a giant space starfish. Sorry. Making everything out there humanoid is boring as fuck.

Seriously. Just say no to Starro the Starbarian!

Word. How could one possibly think that starro needs fixing? He's like the essence of comic book perfection.

MOTTO.

If they needed to change him... maybe they could've instead used that Pirate Starro from the Superfriends.

setting aside the plot issues with that splash page, it is a gorgeous image. I, for one, would gladly welcome alien overlords with such good taste.

He's got a Starro on his chest, so it won't clash with his helmet I guess. This is just Starro's "face." It better be.

Poor Rebels. You try so hard but you'll be canceled soon enough.

Has Lianna shown up in this by any chance?

So starro is the big starfish on the guy's chest and not the guy himself right? I thought it would be more like the Bezoar from 'Bad Eggs' in Buffy.

Also...dominators? I'm tired of the regular DCU leeching off Legion Lore. I don't want to see Starfire with the emerald eye, I don't want takron galtos in the 21st century and I don't want dominators. In return the main DCU can keep their flashes and their green lanterns.

The Dominators played a pretty huge part in the Invasion crossover 20 years ago, so it's not like this is a new development or anything.

Legion Lore had to come from SOMEwhere.

And it isn't always a bad thing: Heaven's Ladder, by Mark Waid. Some alien thing is stealing planets to pilfer those worlds' ideas about heaven. Every race is a legion race.

And yet where, I ask you, is Starro Lad?

Incidentally, young Bruce Wayne cosplaying as the Flying Fox is a callback to an actual old Superboy story, "The Origin of the Superman-Batman Team" from Adventure Comics #275 (1960).
