Re: One more thing... Since Beechan's? If so, yes.
Yes. Because once you drop in this whole "I'm adopting you!" it becomes ever more obvious that she was only adopted for that one moment.
And as you say, then Babs has to abandon her even though *she's* the one with whom it seemed to me (though I'm not an expert with Cass) she had the closer relationship. Like in stories I've read it seems like part of the dynamic was that Bruce, being in his own way as obsessive as Cain, connected with Cass through her commitment to the quest. And that made for a really interesting relationship, but one that made Babs fight even harder to force Cass to develop as a woman and not just a weapon.
And it's not that Cass necessarily needs to have a parent--she's got a father (bad as he is) and although she's emotionally immature she's not a child anymore. But if she's actually going to become part of a family that's a whole story in itself, you now? It's not just something that Bruce makes true with a contract. You have to commit to the whole family including Cass changing to make that true. She can't be this isolated figure that sometimes has an intense relationship with Bruce and has varying relationships as a crimefighter with Dick and Tim. That's not how this family works. As you can see when they do something like add Damian to the household and have everyone adjust around him.
