Flag Day: Now you Know.
Since I let most Holidays slip me by, I decided to do something for Flag Day by posting a comic strip about I just found in today's newspaper. And for the record. Yes I am a republican. Yes I think Al Gore is full of Hot Air, and yes, I eat the bodies of infants and their soul. Since I blow the wind of the sails of the people who would flame me for posting something decent of USA, here it is.

And know you now, and knowing is half the battle. And with today's politics, it has never been truer.

It's okay, dude. I'm a Canadian conservative myself.

Patriotism is not the property of any one party.

WWCAD - What Would Captain America Do?

I'm just wondering what a young Donna Troy is doing with Nancy? ;-)

But we can still flame you for implying that us liberals hate America or something, right?

Yes, yes, rah Flag Day. Rah rah America. And of course patriotism is not the property of the right or the left.

Seriously. I'm a Massachusetts liberal who donated to and voted for Obama, and I dare you to call me unpatriotic to my face. (Or for that matter, question my entire state's American-ness. FFS, we started the whole damn revolution.)

But I'm not surprised that a Republican didn't notice that the rest of the world has been pretty happy with us ever since we voted their party out of power, and thus no apology is necessary.

I haven't read Nancy since I was a kid. When did Aunt Fritzi get so dang hawt?

Fritzi Ritz was originally the star of the strip (until Nancy staged a coup). She was always glamorous, depending on the ability of the artist.

I propose Fritzi take back the strip then! And shack up with Sluggo just to spite Nancy.

I am disturbed by the way that Nancy and her aunt are drawn in completely different styles...it's like Fritzi took a wrong turn on her way back to "Apartment 3-G".

Yes I am a republican.

Paleo conservative?

Neo conservative?

Social conservative?

Fiscal conservative?

Habitual conservative?

Rayndroid?

One of those really dumb people who listen to Rush Limbaugh like he wasn't some sort of blathering idiot?

I hope it's not the last one. Those people make me feel sad for humanity.

Take on sorta cute comic about Flag Day, then spew Political Goo all over it.
Post becomes not about comic, but about posters own political issues.
(Sorta cute, because I didn't like the info dump on the 3rd to last panel.)

Since Political Goo is on comic, I read the last panel and see she wants to call the President. Oooh, if THE PRESIDENT find out about Flag Day, he'll do HORRIBLE THINGS to Flag Day, since HE'S RUINING THE COUNTRY!!!!1111ONE *eye roll*

As a Brit, I'd never heard of Flag Day, and had no idea you guys had such a thing.

But then, the British don't make a big deal out of our flag these days as Americans do (Unless we're getting irked by the Far Right's tendency to try and co-opt it, but since we're generally agreed the BNP are a bunch of tossers it's sort of a moot point),

And we certainly don't have a Code of the Flag like you guys do. (I hasten to add I'm not saying that's better or worse, just noting that it's a major difference in our outlook). We're a bit more casual about it certainly.

Cool! I think Canada has a flag day in February?

...no wait, that's Family Day. Oh well. Our flag pretty much doesn't get any more badass, though, so I'm okay with it. Hell, we have a MAPLE LEAF on it. Take THAT, everyone with stars or suns or cosmic celestial majestics ;)

Also, that comic is several kinds of adorable. I love her spiky little hair!

Ontario has Family Day, dunno about it being national or not. On the other hand, Quebec gets St. Jean Baptiste, which actually makes more sense.

Poor delusional Nancy assumes that genetics might cause her to grow into a Fritzi-like adult. I sense a dark turn in her teens.

I like the preemptive martyring of yourself. I appreciate your proactiveness and wish more republicans would skip to that part.

I'd make a little joke about the seeming love for odd ceremonial holidays over there, but hey, we have a monarchy, so it's not like I can talk.

Technically, you had a red, white, and blue flag before that date, too, it having been a derivative of the old pre-Ireland Union Jack.

and yes, I eat the bodies of infants and their soul.

This seems needlessly passive aggressive to me. You're free to express your opinions, and others are free to agree or disagree with them.

Dude, a tad bitter, are we? I'm a liberal, myself, but I consider myself fairly patriotic, even during the past eight years. Patriotism is loving your country - it doesn't mean you always have to AGREE with your country's official policies, or put on rose-colored glasses when it comes to the bad things your country has done or is doing. I love my country, and it's BECAUSE of that that I point out its flaws - the only way that flaws get fixed is if people notice them. I have no problem with people talking about the USA's good stuff, but ignoring the bad stuff is not patriotism, it's negligence.
