One Perfect Moment: Dan Dare

Two pages, admittedly a repost but is actually relevant to what happened in the recent European elections.

It is... infuriating that we have those idiots representing us in places now. Especially as they say they say things like how they are against people who aren't indigenous to the British Isles, and respond to questions of how they will determine this by saying "You can just tell by looking".

There are no words I can use to describe my opinion of the "British National Party" (in essence the National Front 2.0) which would not get me banned outright.

My only hopes are that A) This will mean that enough people will be motivated to ensure they never win another election and B) Their complete and utter incompetence when given any sort of power will shine through like a shit-coloured beacon.

This is true, but there is much evidence that the BNP literally could not organise a pissing contest if you gave them a wall and a free bar.

According to some reports I heard at the election times, their vote actually FELL in areas they had had previous influence because as a one-policy party they cannot cope with multiple responsibilities effectively and many of those who had voted for them in the past wouldn't do so again. They prospered a great deal through apathy on the part of voters who were too disenchanted with voting to support anyone.

At least you have an organization that you can point to as the enemy.

Whereas over here, we have little independent fascist franchises popping up all over the place now.

You know, between these bastards and Al-Quaeda, I have to say: reading the Invisibles, I wonder why Morrison never once pointed out that decentralized revolutionary violence isn't just for the good guys. I mean, consider: those people, in their minds, conceive of themselves just as something like the Invisibles.

Makes me sad.

Then this little story might make you feel a little better: the Royal British Legion has slapped Griffin down for wearing a poppy while campaigning. [For non-brits, they support veterens from the Armed Forces, and the poppy campaign is their main fundraising effort, held in the run up to Rememberence Day.]

The BNP also really erred recently when they used a picture of a Spitfire in a 'keep foreign workers out' campaign (which was aimed Poles and other East Europeans), when it turned out that the particular plane in question had been flown by one of the Free Polish squadrons who were absolutley vital in the Battle of Britain.

In summary: racist cockrags turn out to be stupid bastards. What a suprise.

This is a really good bit of political commentary, actually. It's all too easy for either side to say 'it's all their fault!', but really, the fault usually lies somewhere in between - the right wingers may be responsible for screwing up a lot of things, but so are the left wingers for supporting worthy causes with an unflinching attitude of head-up-their-own-ass which makes their support less than useless. (And I say this as someone who is politically left wing himself.)
As an example, my Dad is an environmentalist, and is a member of the local county board of supervisors. We live in an area which, in a nutshell, has way too many vineyards taking way too much water out of the local rivers and creeks, and he's been trying for years to get an ordinance passed that will stop them from doing this. Going against him are the vineyard owners themselves, of course, who are pretty powerful, but a major thorn in his side from day one has been people who are nominally on his side, but who will not accept anything but a major and immediate victory. As a result, the minor victories keep getting turned around on him by people who say, 'no, that's not good enough - we won't accept an inch! We demand a mile!' And as a result, they don't get either. It's pretty frustrating.
I've heard of the BNP, but being an ignorant Yank who hasn't been paying much attention to the news lately, I hadn't heard that they'd won anything. May I enquire as to the extent of the damage?

as an American who hears people spew similar rhetoric about our immigrant population, I totally sympathize, although I think it has been better this past year because we're in a reconciliation and acceptance swing.
