One Perfect Moment: the Boys

The Female has returned to her old habits of performing hits for the mob. Her friend, the Frenchman, decides to help out of this cycle.

Here he is meeting her before she decides to murder a Mafia member in front of his wife and kids,

For those who only know of the series via the scant few contextless pages posted here, these two are considered to be the muscle of the team, and are by far two of the most violent characters in this already violent book.

If there are two things that Ennis does really well, they are platonic friendships and dialogue. I also like this scene because despite the world 'the Boys' is based in is a toilet, even two borderline homocidial (though mostly heroic) lunatics are capable of optimism.

The Boys - it's not all bodily fluids and corruption.

When these were posted in old S_D, the reception was pretty... negative.

I liked this bit of the story, though.

Ah yeah, the "she doesn't have a name and is short, that's sexist!" and other kneejerk reactions people automatically have to Ennis.

I'd repost the Dan Dare scene involving the National Front (especially as it would be on topic with the highly irritating success of those BNP bastards in the European election), but I don't think that I'd be allowed.

...hm, they were posted with another set of scans, maybe I can still post them seperately.

Just mostly!

Sadly yes.

There is good stuff in there, it's just obscured by the toilet humour.

Like the storyline that dealt with different perceptions of homophobia, or the growing relationship between Starlight and Wee Hughie.

Yeah, there's kind of a "Boys formula", it's at least one serious scene and one gross-out for each issue. I wonder who Ennis is really doing it for, at this stage.

Much as I enjoyed (still enjoy, really) Ennis' various Punisher stuff, Preacher, the first Fury mini, the Thor mini, his various war comics...The Boys leaves me cold. No idea why it doesn't work for me when most of the Ennis toilet humor I've read in the past *has*, but...

Oh how I love you Frenchman even if I don't understand you half of the time.
