One Perfect Moment: Max Lord
From the JLI days

scans by Madripoor_Rose from the Max Was Framed LJ community.

a little set-up first:
Max had been forced into serving an AI eventually called Kilg%re. well, ok, maybe he was a little willing at first, but he decides eventually that he needs to fight back. the last straw comes and he physically rips the machine apart in another great scene of violence and passion and explosions.

but, because said machine was keeping a series of injuries from killing him, he collapses, somewhat content to die then and there. the League finds him and rushes him to the hospital, and we get this moment:

clutching the JLI communicator for comfort... <3 <3 <3

then he went crazy because DC needed a traitor for Infinite Crisis and apparently faked this.
I really hope Blackest Night fixes M'Lord...

And this is why the Lord seen in Infinite Crisis was actually an alternate universe one, like De Matteis says in all his interviews, while the real one, along with the real Ted Kord, are still out there somewhere getting into trouble.

What'd he say?

What'd he say?

Basically what I posted, he jokingly referred to dead Ted Kord and evil Max as dodgy alternate versions of themselves, while the real ones are still out there. I haven't been able to find the interview, which is a shame, since he makes some very humourous comments, and is genuinely surprised that there was some action in JLI at some stage, and that he hoped he ruined it by covering it with dialog.

I like this story much better.

I love this idea! Still-alive Ted sends anonymous tech to Booster for their long-distance hi-jinks, and has written a "well done" note to Jaime and Khaji-Da.

Oh yes, there's nothing better than personal canon. Barda and Scott are still alive you know, and Tim Drake's friends are too!

Ooh, good choice! I was considering the 'smashing the Kilg%re terminal with a length of rebar' scene for a Max Perfect Moment, but this is a great Awww, Max! moment.

I maintain that Max, tired of living in a cyborg body, decided to create himself a clone body. And while he was at it, he figured, hey, why not have it be a younger body? Too bad younger Max was a douchebag, the kind of douchebag who WOULD shoot Ted in the head, and he betrays real!Max, puts him in stasis, dumps him on Kooeykooeykooey as a new statue of Max Lord for pigeons to poop on, and then assumes his place, becoming head of Checkmate (and maybe Max always was, but never in an evil way), and then getting his human clone neck snapped by Wonder Woman.

I stand by that theory. The real Max is still out there.

That is almost WORD FOR WORD the idea I had for a fanfic. *lol*

That can only mean we have both tapped into the undeniable, unavoidable truth of what really happened. The truth cannot be suppressed forever, DiDio! It will surface!

Argh. According to comments in the interview Killermoth1 linked, there AREN'T going to be any more JLI reprint trades?

DC, DC, DC...

think it says the opposite... "Justice League International, which has now seen four hardcover collections (with the first recently released in paperback, and more of both formats to come)."

...

"BLOG@: Black Hand! Are you guys expecting a Blackest Night bump on the sales of this HC?

JMD: You mean Black Hand is a major character now? BWAH-HA-HA-HAAAAA!!!!
"

*dies*

I guess we may be out of luck, unless we speak with our dollars or start writing. When I asked him this weekend, Bob Wayne says that DC currently has no plans to solicit further JLI hardcovers."

I was so looking forward to seeing how Max and L-Ron met, too. What's a girl with no LCS to do? Sigh.

No idea on the issue number. It was reprinted in Justice League International Vol. 1.
