Week of Doom: Unthinkable
Since this is Doom week, we revisit one of Doom's other forays into the nether world, and his need to tap magic to do what science could not. To give him the power that should rightfully be Doom's.
But first, there is one that he must seek... and he visits different types of fortune tellers to find someone. His past catches up with him as he catches up with... her.
As valiant as Doom can be, Doom can also sink to terrible lows. Steady yourselves to have your hearts ripped out. From Fantastic Four #67. (not my scans, btw)
He find his childhood sweetheart, Valeria. She proves that after all this time and all he has done, she still loves him, because she is able to bear the horror of what has been done to Doom's face and Doom's intense stare and only return the love for him.
And then Doom does this.
That, for me, shot him right back up there is uber-villain #1. His hate and rage has blinded him and taken from Doom the few qualities that gave him an appeal. Doom loved. Loved deeply. And he's traded that for more power. Not power to rule the world or power to save Latveria. power to turn against the Fantastic Four. Curse you Richards!
Now, for all of you who have seen Doom flirt before, remember that this is what he does to ladies he's loved. Or taken from them magical powers and exiled them millions of years in the past.
Imagine what he would do to Ororo? Jean Grey? or any of the other women's he's enchanted?
