I think the book deserved better than that cover. I believe my interpretation of the cover is probably different than what the artist may have intended, but I don't think it's any less valid. I find it difficult to believe that anyone can look at that cover and not see an unsettling connection between sex and violence that didn't do the female characters starring in the book any real favors. Of course maybe that just indicates a lack of imagination on my part, I don't know, but I personally don't think the cries of sexism were completely unfounded in this case. Anyone who went on to imply that the women actually were sexually assaulted in the book were obviously being disingenuous, but most complaints I heard were with the cover itself.
I do regret losing a female majority book, and that's one of the reasons I am considering supporting Marvel Divas, despite the...eh, questionable way it's being solicited (assuming its any good, female majority or not, I can't afford to support crap).
