Seriously? I had been reading that comic from the first issue, I knew of the Brood and the overall context in which she would be appearing. None of that changed the simple fact that the cover was quite clearly evoking violent sexual imagery. You keep saying 'Shang-Chi was there, Shang-Chi was there!' as if that mitigates the fact that Colleen, Felicia and a curiously white looking Misty Knight were the ones front and center with drool splattered all over their boobs.
Yes, the story didn't match the cover, and in a way that's almost more insulting. Talk about pandering! My disgust was not 'nipped in the bud,' because that gross cover, even having nothing to do with the story, was still incredibly problematic, and now I have a nice gap in my Heroes for Hire run because I refused to buy that issue.
Those two facts alone, that the alien was female and one of the potential victims was male, should have been enough to shoot holes in the "IT's RAAAAAAAAPE!" theory and nipped the outrage in the bud. But facts didn't matter to the lynch mob. And it was my favorite book that got hanged.
Ignoring the fact that this kind of misses the point entirely I would like to point out something that should be fairly obvious; Women can commit sexual assault...and they can even victimize men!
