Re: Noirsensei says:
The comment of a (presumably) Japanese moviegoer on that trailer says it all:
"Than , Who are Evil in Watchmen ? "
Also, I love how Dr. Manhattan is barely shown.
Anything not bombastic and colorful or hyped up by star power really tends to fail here. "Iron Man" succeeded by being fun. "Dark Knight" succeeded by the hype about Ledger. (Even then, failed in Japan.) "Watchmen" failed, hard. The rumblings after the midnight screening were ubiquitously negative. Hell, even "Star Trek" failed - I thought it was wonderful.
The top two box office draws as I went to see "20th Century Boys (part II)" last weekend? "Night at the Museum" and "17 Again."
I thought it was an interesting choice to call them the Super Young team - Youth is a powerful thing over here.
Youthful, colorful bombastic heroes cashing in on American name brands are completely a solid idea, doubtlessly.
I'll agree here, that it may be an issue of writing. Let's get to know the kids under those uniforms. Hell, the Runaways don't even have proper heroing identities, and I love those little scamps.
That's what the super young team needs to be beneath the confetti, for anyone to start giving a damn about the "wonderful" Morrison commentary they represent.
