Because you tried to defend Grayson's distinction between "rape" and "nonconsensual sex" by basically saying, "Well, maybe they didn't actually have sex, which would mean it wasn't rape,"
No, I did not. I was replying to seawolf10, who was saying that it wouldn't be possible for a guy having a nervous breakdown to have an erection. So I pointed out that Tarantula could have rubbed herself against Dick, which would still have been sex, still have been assault, and still have been rape. I've been saying nothing different this entire post.
with all of his friends and family giving him warning signs
I think I missed that.
Again, I found it was in character for Dick to have a break down at that moment. I recognised Dick through that, too: he was taking responsibility for everything that happened, he tried to fix things, he wanted to do the right thing and he wanted to help Tarantula. What he valued hadn't changed.
As to stripping Dick of his resources and relationships, I accepted it as being the frame of the story. "This is a story about a hero breaking down, and it's going to be grim and gritty and angsty" (and you can add narmy if you'd like); so okay, I went with that for the duration of the story. It worked for me, I found what I read sufficiently thrilling that I wasn't screaming within my mind "NO THEY WOULD NOT". It wasn't about changing the nature of the character, merely their circumstances.
