Of interest in Marvel's August releases
I may be interpreting it wrong, but Marvel Spotlight will shed some light on one of Marvel's biggest issues.

Newsarama has the full solicits.

For those who demanded it, Ben is back. Well, sort of.

Am I missing something? Real clone saga?

The fact that Peter and Mary Jane weren't "really" married during the events of the Clone Saga anymore would have, as many continuity-minded fans have pointed out, necessarily changed the course of events that eventually led to Ben Reilly's death. And given that Joe Quesada recently said, "Even though we told you that the marriage was the ONLY part of Spider-Man's continuity that's changed, there's ONE OTHER THING that's changed" ... well, it's not hard to read the writing on the wall, especially since Steve Wacker and Tom Brevoort have both said, in online interviews, that they'd really, REALLY like to bring Ben Reilly back.

Yeah, to be honest, I've been wondering if Marvel would take this route eventually. Hell, Ben Reilly fans have been pointing out that his death (specifically the degeneration) wasn't really consistent with the Clone Saga canon for years.

And considering that Ben's original purpose was to "replace" the Peter Parker fans had gotten fed up with... well, I'd be shocked to see The House of Ideas stealing from the past again. (And once again failing it up, considering that what most fans liked about Ben was how he'd become his own man and NOT Peter-Lite due to his experiences.)

Real clone saga?

Yes, this time it will be 312 pages of Peter in deadly peril against his greatest enemy, ever, the Green Goblin. Ben will be shot on the first page. After being revealed as Norman's son, by Betty Brant, rather than clone. Miles Warren will never be mentioned.

Oh, and it won't be labeled as Clone Saga, rather than Goblin Saga.

Yeah, do they mean the one that just got reburied and memorialised in Captain America?

My speculation: They are going to replace twenty-something Johnny Storm with the teenage Johnny fresh from the rocket crash. Except this time he is even more obnoxious. Because the F4 need an immature hothead.

Why in god's name does Marvel want to dig up that bloated corpse of a story again?

The dead horse flinched as the swollen carcass released swamp gas from the rot, and Marvel had to make sure they couldn't get more out of said horse.

They're really desperate for good sales on Spidey?

(Honestly. I may be a big fan of Ben and some parts of the Clone Saga, but the majority of it was AWFUL. Just when I thought BND couldn't get worse...)

It does seem that she can call on any power, at the end of the last issue there was a bright light that could be Sunfire's powers. Its not a new idea, there was an idea to make rogue a cosmic force years ago. I wonder how long this sticks though, her tragedy is part of her trademark sadly.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Please don't tell me this means they're bringing back Ben, too.

I loved Ben, and I miss him, but I don't want to see his death cheapened. Figures Marvel would bring back two of my favorites (yeah I missed Harry too) in the middle of an epicly stupid storyline.

I thought Ben's death was already increadibly cheap, and couldn't be made much worse by a rescurrection. It's not like Norman and Harry Osborn, or Gwen Stacy, whose deaths actually had some meaning. Bringing back either of them, now that would be cheap, and Marvel would never...

...wait.

So, when do you think Gwen returns?

Gwen won't come back as long as there's a clone wandering around who could take her spot

Now now now, no one said anything about him coming back. All it says is that the REAL clone saga in is laid bare. Whatever that means.

I was hoping someone more versed with the lore could help explain what that means.

I think they may revisit some idea or concept when Ben Reilly was around.

The 'real' Clone Saga? Gurk. I like Ben Reilly. I'm sad he died. But the recent fuck-up of the Spider-Man series cannot be redeemed by a re-telling of that. In fact, cheapening his death by rewriting it badly just makes things worse. The only thing that can redeem this horrid cascade of bad changes to the Marvel-verse due to the BND retcon is to retcon the retcon and put things back how they were. Fucking Quesada. >_< (And Steve Rogers needs to be alive again! I don't care if he's still using the mantle of Captain America or not as long as he's alive and written in-character! [/rant])

I am totally okay with the scenario in which Ben blows into town long enough to help Mary Jane load up her stuff, give Peter the mutual finger, and swan off together to a beach house in Savannah or elsewhere fabulous, leaving Peter to molder forever in his auntie's basement. Your DNA can live happily if you're too dumb to, Spidey!

DARK AVENGERS #8
Written by MATT FRACTION
Pencils by LUKE ROSS
Cover by MIKE DEODATO
Variant Cover by SIMONE BIANCHI
70th Frame Variant by TBA
Norman's X-Men, as led by Emma and Namor, are the face of mutant law and order! The X-Men look played out of position as Osborn's dark reign falls over California-- but Scott Summers isn't done yet. The X-Men strike at Norman, at H.A.M.M.E.R., at his fraud X-Men and his sham Avengers all at once! This is the book where, at long last, the Marvel Universe starts to fight back-- and it sets the stage for next month’s unbelievable conclusion in UNCANNY X-MEN/DARK AVENGERS - EXODUS!

Well it's about fucking time.
And Fraction on Dark Avengers?

Rebirth looks interesting, but I doubt Steve is back already...

Also, GAWD how long is the "Most Wanted" arc in Iron man going to last?

And where the fuck is Iron Fist? Is it on hiatus until the immortal weapons miniseries concludes? (and god it needs a new penciler..Foreman's art reminds me of puke)
