And no, it was a simple one-and-done gag in the typical Giffen style. Personally, though... I'd love to see someone at Marvel find a way to respond by indicating that the JSA's refusal to talk to Joe McCarthy and subsequent going-underground is canon in 616, too... making this a "split" point between the Marvel and DCUs.

Never happen, but it'd be entertaining as all hell if they did.

You know, it seems that every time another company does a Fantastic Four pastiche, the spaceflight either goes horribly wrong or the group are evil. Planetary, Batman Beyond, Cyborg Superman. Sometimes even Marvel gets in on the act, in their more cynical What Ifs (Ruins, frex). In the Marvel Adventures universe, at least, the U-Foes got their powers by deliberately duplicating the FF's spaceflight, but they were arguably evil to begin with.

It occurs to me that Rip's later muted comment about 1961 (I think) is a followup; that's when the first issue of the Fantastic Four came out.

I got the reference of the 4 astronauts fairly easily. I just thought it was Henshaws group as well which caused most of my confusion.

That is only _one_ of two love notes in the comic. The other one is on the last page, featuring a blonde and a brunette, in the 1950s, in a malt shoppe.

Cute reference. My estimation of the issues goes up. I got that they were supposed to be the FF, but didn't get the subtle dialogue references.

There's also a fun joke on the last two pages. Booster's "reason" for going to the 50s to begin with was... lol.
