Everyone. May I have your attention. We have a Thunder God.
Alright, everyone... deep breaths before you argue aye or nay.

Let's play nice... and remember that Vladimir Kulich was BORN to be the Odinson. Alas, he's too old now, but he may make a awesome Odin.

IGN has the scoop on who is cast as the wielder of Mjolnir

Captain Kirk's father.. well, the young actor who played him, is Thor, God of Thunder for the Marvel movie.
Chris Hemsworth

The young Aussie actor has the potential.. I liked and believed him in the recent Star Trek movie, and he has that face that made me think I had seen him before. But he NEEDS to bulk up. He has to look like he can tango and be a match for either of the movie Hulks.

Back to what a hundreds of years old Thunder God should look like in real life.
I hope they took notes and look at Vladimir's 13th Warrior work for notes.

Should have been... alas... maybe in an alternate universe, they got it right.

For legality:

In THIS picture, yeah, I can see Chris as Thor.

*edit* My bad about the link. fixed!

I think you accidentally posted the wrong link. I was so excited, and somehow it took me to a page of CBR's preview for Skaar. I was miffed. But I found the real link: http://movies.ign.com/articles/983/983819p1.html

anyways, AWESOME NEWS

Doesn't matter if Brian Blessed doesn't get worked into this film somewhere (most likely as Volstagg the Voluminous).

Branagh himself would make a great Fandral the Dashing.

Blessed's a possibility, since Branagh's worked with him before, but I think it's safe to say dear old Richard Briers is a certainty. Has Branagh directed a single movie without him appearing yet?

I want Blessed for Odin... though Volstagg would work too I suppose!

Well, well, well...

ITA with the bulking up comments, but I think that he'd do well. He handled George Kirk Sr. very nicely.

I've had such an embarassing crush on that guy since he was on "Home and Away", an Aussie soap import to the UK. His acting wasn't bad (But since it was Kenneth Branagh who finally cast him, he may have as yet untapped reserves of acting skill), but ye gods he was just so damned pretty!

I agree with someone whose noted he might have been a more obvious choice for Captain America (Look, if you buggers can make Kevin sodding Costner Robin Hood, then a Brit Director can cast an Australian as one of YOUR folk heroes)

I have a friend who is obsessed with the idea that Bradley James (Prince Arthur from Merlin) would make a brilliant Cap. I'm inclined to agree.
Let's have a Brit playing Captain America
('unlike other Robin Hoods, I can do it with an English accent!')

Oh, and pretties. Thos hipbones!

I've thought at times that Mark Valley would visually at least make a fantastic Cap. Too bad that he's too old for the part.

A 6'3" heavily muscled sex god as relative milquetoast Donald Blake?

Sex god? Sure. I've perused the soap caps and they have my stain of approval. I MEAN STAMP. I said stamp.

Heavily-muscled, though? Muh. We've all seen far more mesomorphic physiques. Not better physiques, mind you...it's not a matter of whether he's fit or not, it's a matter of "Wait you guys went looking for a Norse battlegod and this is what you ended up with?"

This Hemsworth guy is a regular Adonis, which is great for him, except that Thor shouldn't reflect that pantheon's standards of male fitness, if you catch my meaning. Thor's a powerhouse. Practically a meathead. All I'm saying is, this guy's audition had better have been a frakkin' masterpiece.

Now watch me eat my words raw in a few months when it turns out he's packed on thirty pounds of muscle.

I said he'd be heavily muscled for Donald Blake, which as he is a slightly built lame guy with a cane, is certainly true.

For Thor, yes, a little more definition, but I can imagine we'll get that from him without trouble.

I'll admit that after Adventures on Babysitting (And I'm so dating myself) my mental live-action Thor has always been Vincent D'Onofrio. Who couldn't be Thor now even after losing a hundred pounds and twenty years, but meh, who cares?

Still, this Chris is... very good looking. Now let him grow his hair and get his shirt off and we can start talking...

If he bulks up I'll give him a shot.

Also correct on the dude from 13th Warrior. The first time I saw that movie, one of my thoughts was: "That guy would make a perfect Thor!"
