Huh. IDOLS sure does have some mixed reviews on Amazon.

Madonnas and Monsters is really hard to find. It does deal with subtext, but not along the same lines as it looks like IDOLS does. M&M's got quite a few grotesques, and a vague deco sensibility along with the surreal creepiness.

Excerpt: The primary intention however was to present visions of lewdness and cruelty, albeit humorously; as such Mortensen's images greatly influenced later fetishist photography. Don't totally agree with that summary, but it's somebody's viewpoint.
