One SPOILERY image from "Masters of Doom"
IGN previews of FF#566 has a hell of a shocker.

R.I.P.

If this is for real (and not retconned) you were much respected and welcome throughout the years.

SPOILERS

There's something Doom has yet to do, but he's never felt the need to. Doom needs his great acts to be remembered.

I was wondering of anyone would ever bother to kill him.

His main contribution tended to be annoying narration, anyway.

I like the depiction of Doom's return home.

Well, technically it never says it's Uatu, just "The Watcher". I don't want to sound racist or anything, but those guys all look alike.

Exactly.

Like it would matter if it was Uatu? Most WHAT IF™ stories start with "I am the Watcher......"
Seriously, they could do WHAT IF™ with the Cryptkeeper and it wouldn't matter.

As I person who generally hates overly long epic crossovers, I wish there were more WHAT IF™ and ELSEWORLD™ stories. And more one-shots, anthology titles, etc.
Is it too much to ask that $19.99 pays for a complete story?

PLANET HULK cost $34.99+tax+shipping and ends with "to be continued". Needless to say I was not happy....

Oy!

No What-Ifs, no What If There Were Avengers in the 1950s. No What If there were Avengers in the 1950s, no Agents of Atlas.

They weren't all bad darkfics, Al.

VERY few.

The giant corpse reminds me uncomfortably of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

It's never 'just you'. =p I've been on a beach with a large corpse (half-rotted sea lion) and this brought that... unique aroma right back.

And another instance of Millar's dead giant fetish.

Not to sound like a hand wringer ('Won't someone PLEASE think of the children?!') but is that level of gore REALLY necessary, Marvel? Come on, a little goes a long way.

Quick reminder: this is from the guy who raised a stink when DC told him that he couldn't show someone raping the corpse of Jenny Sparks in Authority.

And Marvel hired him anyway.

Oh come on. I'm hardly a prude and I don't mind mature story lines, but do we need to have brutally murdered corpses on full display in the Fantastic Four, the wacky comedy about a super-adventurin' family? Uata's been gutted for Christ's sake.

Eeee-yeeeeeeewwww. That's GROSS.
And honestly, this can't be Uatu. He's a Stan and Jack character, for cryin' out loud - they wouldn't dare bump him off. He's featured in too many storylines over the years, and he's too familiar to fans. If they DID kill him, they'd do it in some sort of spectacular fashion - he wouldn't just be discovered dead like this. My guess is that this is some other Watcher, and that Uatu is just hiding someplace, and will pop up in a month or two going 'No, it's really me! That corpse was my cousin Ergatu. Fooled ya, huh? Oh, by the way, there's some really really big crossover-necessitating evil approaching Earth, and while I really shouldn't be telling you about it, I just can't resist the temptation to watch all you little guys panic down here.'

Meh, he can get better. If anyone remembers their Gruenwald "Quasar" run, a goodly chunk of the Watchers decide to off themselves because of a sort of cult belief which believes they may be contributing to a cosmic-macro-version of "observation can influence events". Quasar talks them out of it, and the dead Watchers decide to come back to life because death doesn't quite work for the Watchers the way it does for mortals.
