I see Superman is being his usual sympathetic and understanding self.

I have always noticed Supes relationship with Supergirl has been this way. Next Question, if Comet could speak, how come the rest of the superpet couldn't. When wil the Silver age make sense ?

Comet was originally a centaur, iirc, so his speaking (albeit telepathically...) makes some sense. Though one would think he'd speak/think in Greek or some dead tongue.

Comet is speaking telepathically ?

Er, maybe not here, since in retrospect those look an awful lot like regular speech bubbles, but I'm pretty sure he does communicate telepathically on occasion.

Or maybe I'm just confused again.

Oh , who knows. I recall seeing thought ballons on Krypto but it didn'r seem anyone else could "hear" them.

Well, he is telepathic and normally can't talk so I'd guess "yes", hence the "I'm reading your mind" comment.

Yes, Comet's "dialogue" is usually in thought balloons. The fact that he's speaking out loud here is meant to be a clue that he's an imposter.

"Super-horse vanished just like krypto, streaky, and mr mxyzptlk!"

Huh? Did she "kill" mxyzptlk too or is she just bringing it up for no real reason.

She certainly wasn't being very careful though. Comet's death looked intentional ("oh, I tripped...somehow. Oops sorry super-horse") and she had to have been really careless to let her mother walk across the room and touch her.

I also like how superman seems to be rubbing it in. Harsh.

Yes, she checks all the usual sources for trouble and kills Mxyzptlk accidentlly.

Ah yes, "Mole World", whose main inhabitants look nothing at all like moles, but do seem to resemble WORMS in both form and function. What, "Wormworld" too hard to say Kara?

You begin to see why the writers of this era named a shapeshifter "Chameleon Boy" when his powers have bugger all to do with Chameleons or any variety of blending in (which at least works as an excuse for the TARDIS Chameleon circuit, which WAS supposed to make sure the TARDIS blended into it's surroundings)

Classic "bait and switch" they found Moleworld got more traffic than wormworld...

Supes spotted this "from another galaxy"? Wow, I knew he had good vision, but that's taking it to another extreme!

On another note, how did it end up? I have a morbid curiousity, and don't get how they all "just disappeared".

Impostor aliens trying to trick Supergirl into leaving the planet or kill herself or remove her powers, I forget which, so they could take her form and do the same to Superman.

SG was delivering canisters for the UN (don't ask) and the Aliens took it as hostle act. They made it seem she was killing everything she touched to get her to stop. It was the Silver age ....waddah'ya want?

Ironically it turns out to be Donald Rumsfeld.

It's always Rumsfield!

And he would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids.

Completely off-topic, but did you know Rumsfeld is an accomplished unicyclist?

SRSLY.

Alienation and isolation is a recurring theme in a lot of these old Supergirl stories. She was always getting exiled somewhere, or put in positions where she seemed to betray (or was betrayed by) friends or family. It makes sense, I suppose -- psychological trauma is about the only way to challenge a hero who is physically indestructible. And the fear of losing a pet, or being rejected by your loved ones are things that would resonate pretty strongly with kids (or anyone, really). But the net effect was that Supergirl spent an awful lot of time sitting around weeping and moping.

Same with Superboy. He got banished from Smallville, the Kents disowned him, he had to exile himself because his powers were out of control, he was frequently replaced by a new hero with greater powers. The writers tried to push the buttons of anxiety and insecurity for a teenage readership. I think the letterers had a stencil for *choke* and *sob*. You're right, though, it worked at drawing readers in.

DIE! DIE! ALL SUPER-PETS DIE!

And Jesus, Comet's stupid.

"Don't come near! I'll kill you!"

"Oh, I'm sure I'm special, don't--hey, I'm dying! What did I do to deserve this?"

"Being an utter fucking idiot, Comet. By the way? I'm Supergirl. I never stumble over wires accidentally."

"You--you--"

By the way: I think I detect Comet in an Alanis Morrisette-like misunderstanding of human words. Is this an instance of irony or stupidity?

Also, isn't Comet supposed to actually be a human, with a human's intelligence? DAMN he's dumb.

Yes, I realize he's an imposter. It's funnier if he isn't, shaddap.
