Spectacular Spider-Girl: More Surprises!
BIG spoilers from the latest issue of Spectacular Spider-Girl/Amazing Spider-Man Family. (ASMF is 55 pages in total, the SSG segment is 23, I counted!) DON'T click the link if you don't want to know, folks, I cannot stress that enough.

Sadly, I couldn't include more of the newest "Parker", because I think I already love her, but I figured people would want to see this more...

A couple questions:

1. WHAT?!

2. Ben has a grave? (Since he turned to clone dust, I assumed he couldn't be buried.)

3. If Gwen isn't who she says she is (and I assume she's not, because Ben already has a child in MC2) then just what is she? Another Gwen clone? A genderflipped clone of Reilly Tyne? With bleached hair? WHAT, it worked in Ultimate Spider-Man!

4. No, I'm not telling you how the issue ends. And yes, I know that's not a question.

Personally, I can't wait to see how REILLY reacts to this.

Unfortunately, I couldn't include the pages explaining it. "April" is the May clone that's been wandering around for the past few issues. (She's also a part-symbiote shapeshifter, which... kind of explains the hair.)

That's either completely retarded or awesome.

...maybe both.

actualy, she could also be the original May.
Norman did'nt bother keeping tracts of who was the clone.
He said he experimented on both as babies to make sure they had powers.then after Kaine saved one he did the symbiote experiment.

So you're saying she just put the symbiote on her head, like a hat, and smooshed out a hair do out of it? Cus that would be great.
Especially if it sprouted venom eyes at times.
Bonus points if it ate stuff, leading to cruel kids at school throwing paper bits at her hair just to see it dissapear.

this better come out in trade, with only the spider-girl storie.

no way i'm buying Spider-man familly.

Are they gona tell everyone April is a cousin or something?
Peter should treat her better.IMO.

Yep, that's the cover story, she's May's "cousin" April Reilly.

And I think Peter should be nicer to her, too. Hopefully he learns soon!

Not to try and change your mind, but Spider-Man Family is a really fun title all around. Even the BND stories in it aren't so bad. The Harry/Peter one was much, MUCH better than what we got in the main Spidey titles.

April Parker. She apparently didn't appreciate the attempt to put her in her 'clone' place.

Ooops, you're right, my bad.

(Man, if Ben were here, I think he'd be giving Peter SUCH a chewing out for the way he's treating April just because she's a clone. Seriously, Peter, if that's the way you act... no wonder Darkdevil hasn't come clean yet. I love Pete, I do, but MAN.)

Motto. :( I wish *somebody* would bitchslap Peter. At this point, the code of silence is actually looking reasonable. And I'm more than a little disappointed in Mary Jane.

To be fair, MJ's arm is healing up. Maybe she's waiting for it to be nice and healthy again for the bitchslapping.

In all seriousness, I suspect Peter and April bonding will be a subplot in this arc.

Yeah, I wish people would remember that.

To be fair, I've always fanwanked the outfit thing as "dressing Gwen that way to deliberately freak out Peter/Ben/whoever", but STILL.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on here.

Peter and MJ are married? When the hell did that happen? That totally ages the character. And giving them not only children, but Ben Reilly kids, too? It's ridiculous.

then we could tell stories where Peter teams up with Obama, everyone forgets his identity but its convienent for the writers (yes they said that in an interview), and Harry comes back so it could be just like the movies

Yeah, everyone knows that if a character gets married then soon he'll get old and die, because marriage and having a family results in rapid agining and premature death.

I like the adventures of Spider-girl Red and Spider-girl Blue.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the issue was a full sized issue of Spider-girl but was also bundled with cool stuff.

eeee...'April' constantly following May around was about as charming as when my little brother did it to me as a child. I just wanted to yell at her, "If you don't want to be the clone, WHY DO YOU KEEP DOING WHATEVER THE OTHER ONE DOES?"

Actually, I think that could be what DeFalco's going for here. Remember, just an arc ago "April" was more than ready to pretend to be May for the rest of her life - and she really envied her the normal life she had.

Plus, well, May really is the only friend she has this point. Literally. Makes sense that she'd be a bit clingy (considering we're talking about wallcrawlers, pun not intended).

The green coat shot in the last panel instantly made me think "Doom!", but that can't be it. I would hope Ben got some kind of grave or memorial or something, even if there was just clone dust or nothing. Peter's got connections to heroes who've had teammates killed without leaving remains, right?

I've got my money on Gwen clone, personally. (Although in my opinion Girl!Darkdevil clone is the funniest, and therefore best, answer.)

I seem to remember Peter and MJ scattering the dust over a bridge (maybe even that one), but I could be really mistaken... but I would like a memorial, too. Because Ben deserves it! Even though there is something poignant about the idea of Ben not having one. Because Ben deserved one. :(

Gender-inverted clones are always interesting.

Yes. I think it's just really sad that after he died and the Clone Saga ended writers just pretended he hadn't existed. Intensely unpopular story arc, yeah, but it's not like he was a robot or something. He'd already been built up.

Ben had a funeral gathering at the home...I assumed he had a plaque put on the ground. Some people do that. It may not have been common knowledge that there was no body. Peter would rather people didn't ask questions, I'm sure.

The obvious conclusion is that she's a Gwen clone who got woken up along with April when she escaped, or because a remote mechanism was activated somewhere. April might have inside information on her.

The interesting thing is that she's mimicking some of what Reilly Tyne's story might be (and could have been--I always wondered if they got so happy they married despite not having legal identities). Reilly's mother split up with Ben before their child was born.

The letters is an another thing. In Loeb's Spiderman Blue Peter writes Gwen a letter even though she's dead. Ben thought his girlfriend died the way Gwen did...maybe he started writing those letters again, to deal with the double grief. Maybe somehow Gwen Reilly found them and, desperate for place and identity, she took on this person who was so deeply loved. The illusion would be comforting.

I am hoping against hope that her mimicry of part of Reilly's story means that she has some knowledge, like that Ben's girl had a child. Also hoping that this means the Parkers finally decide to do some investigating and actually find the real child. :P

Why don't I have a Darkdevil icon? Oh well, next best thing.
[info]felinephoenix

I hadn't considered the possibility that April might have some inside info on her, that's interesting. It would explain that look on her face as she's listening (although, uh, just being annoyed in general would too).

As for Ben and Janine Godbe/Elizabeth Tyne, the fact that they pretended to be a married couple while on the run (and did this for, it's hinted, years) indicates to me that, yes, they probably would have married under more normal circumstances. It would make sense if they did, just to keep up the charade... (Take THAT, Quesada, even Ben Reilly wanted to get hitched.)

AND OH GOD ME TOO. Of course, there's always the possibility the Parkers won't have to investigate. I imagine Darkdevil - and, hell, Kaine for that matter - won't be pleased to find out there's someone wandering around pretending to be Ben's child.
