When your momma's a (MILF) Man Trap

Here's an interesting little gem, this stuff's again from a 70's issue of 'Falling in Love', a rare issue based on what happens when somebody puts in a little Elektra Complex in the way of teen drama!

Yyyeah...scratch the elektra complex thing. This looks more like a PRE MENSTRUAL SYNDROME.

Remember girls! Just because you make judgements out of somebody you lived with your whole life doesn't mean it's right at all!

Neil's certainly trying to smother a smirk, isn't he?

Edit: Sorry, forgot the LJ cut Xp

Good thing there was a man to yell at her and set her straight! (Heck, even her fiance's like, "If she's half the woman her mother is--" What?)

This is bizarre, even for a romance comic.

This is bizarre, even for a romance comic.

I get the vibe that someone's disgruntled, "unappreciated" parent was doing some venting when they wrote this. "The End...Sherry."

Ah, well the comic book's 37 pages long...it took me a good long time trying to decide what to opt out the pages in this story arc. Would it be better if I take down some right now?

"You're mother only had your best interests at heart when she stole all your other boyfriends."

Yeah, I think you need to explain that better, Elliot. I'm reminded of that movie where the kids locked their parents in the basement because they wouldn't act like parents.

No, but that's what she's saying. Every time she has a boyfriend in the scans, he runs off to dance with her mom. Feels like a "Stacy's Mom" moment to me, as well, considering the time period.

Well, Mrs. Robinson is the closer analogue. Funny, I thought she was such a bitch when I saw the movie. In retrospect, a guy who'd cheat with his fiance's mother is pretty much a loser.

Benjamin wasn't cheating on his fiance with her mother. He was sleeping with Mrs. Robinson before he met her daughter, and once he fell in love with her he ended the affair and fought to be with Elaine.

I actually can't tell you the name of it, because I don't know it. It's one of those early 90s (maybe late 80s?) movies where kids run riot because of cruddy parenting and then find their inner responsibility and everything works out excellently. Like Camp Nowhere, but minus Doc Brown. I saw it on tv when I was small, it was one of those rainy day child-pleasers. I keep meaning to look it out again but as yet.. I have not!

Good grief, the way Sheila was laying it on in the narration, I thought her mother was actually dating her boyfriends. Not that I see how hogging the attention of her friends is helping her in any way, but still.

Oh god I hate this crap. Someone is constantly passive-aggressive, victim silently suffers under it until they finally stand up for themselves and give them the what-for, only to realise they didn't know the truth/misinterpreted their actions/etc and is a horrible person for actually refusing to take their crap.

So remember girls, don't ever actually confront someone and the way they're treating you, you probably have it all wrong and break their poor little heart! Be a good girl and suffer under their good intentions!

Seriously, no mother could be THAT damn clueless. I'd say Sheila was right all along.

I can just link you to a fic if you'd prefer. There's actually a decent handful out there. There needs to be an emoticon more evil than "XD," there really does.

You can always quote Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons and just say "there is no emoticon for what I am feeling". :D

I have honestly never had any desire to read Gilmore Girls fanfic. I generally don't like fanfic for television shows, because it's hard to get character voices down when a large part of it is what the actors bring to it, and not just the writing. Which makes it especially hard for GG fic to work, because so much of what goes on is in how the lines are said. I went searching for some once a few years back, and never again.

(Mind you, I think I read Beast Wars fanfic when I was 15/16, so...I probably shouldn't talk.)

[info]bluefall

I was never particularly compelled to read GG fic specifically - it's just not a show I was ever fannish about, much though I loved it - but I happened across one by chance once as part of a multifandom femslash ficathon. Unfortunately that fic is probably the single best GG fic on the whole of the internet - perfect voice, absolutely brilliant use of all involved characters, heartwarmingly precision portrayal of the Rory/Lorelai relationship, and it seriously did sound basically exactly like the show. Which... my fannish beginnings were basically Buffyverse, and that particular mode of Joss-speech is tricky to capture as well, so I'm very used to allowing for stylistic differences in fic... at least, I usually am. I can't do it with Gilmore Girls, though. That first fic just set the bar too damn high.

I can pretty much always make an exception for crackfic, though. Which Dean/Lorelai kind of is by nature. ^^

[info]bluefall
2009-04-28 09:29 pm UTC (link)
Rory/Paris of course. What other femslash is there in GG? Lane fell off the face of the series and you can hardly ship Lorelai/Sookie. (In fact the femslashers who want to slash Lorelai actually ended up bringing in a character from an entire other series. There's a whole tiny subculture of people who ship Lorelai/Alex Cabot from SVU. With some hilarious wank over "ownership" of the concept by the chick who first thought it up and got mad that a bunch of people copied her.)

I think the only ships I ever had in mind during that show were Luke/Lorelai, and Rory/Jess, because I have no imagination for these things.

Paris is awesome, but I can't imagine her being with anyone without shouting very specific instructions, pausing for the occasional hilarious rant.

As for Lorelai with anyone else, there was a bit on Family Guy which I am still trying to erase from memory... *cringe*

Well, that's freudian. Come to think of it, this is kind of like an Oedipus complex in reverse, isn't it? That makes you want to kill your father and marry your mother, but she hates her mother and... well, there the parallels break down, because her father is absent. Of course, one could argue that it is actually a by-the-books Oedipus complex, and the reason her father is dead is because she killed him, and the reason she's so mad at her mother is because of displacement (thanks, Addams Family!), and she thinks she hates her because she really loves her - HER, and not any of those other boys - and in that last panel, it's THEM getting married, with Elliot and Neil as the best men, and... and... and I've just written a disturbing fanfic without realizing it. The Internet has warped my mind!
