I was using retcon in a totally inaccurate way, sorry. It wasn't a retcon--it was always the way it happened in DitF. But I meant that when people talked about Jason's death it seems like they almost immediately had people talking about how Jason wasn't ready, Jason was reckless, Jason had certain issues... Everybody talked about it as if Jason died because of issues of recklessness as opposed to dying because of this terrible betrayal by his mother. So that's what I meant, that it seemed like almost immediately characters started talking as if Jason died differently than the way he actually died. Even Jason himself says this and he was there.
I mean, it's realistic if somebody dies that people might start talking in more general terms and feel like their death was linked to some problem they were always worried about rather than the specific way they died. But it seems like they rarely deal with the actual circumstances of Jason's death which turned out to have little to do with any of that. I think there's that one comic where Bruce says something like "I gave him the freedom to find his mother--and it killed him" but does he say that now?
