DOOM hosts a party
Dr. Doom is entertaining his Asgardian guests at Castle Doom. (Do they know about his deal with Dracula?)

As usual, the politics and table conversations of Dr. Doom are as deadly as his vast arsenal.

Previews from Thor #61, from IGN.com

Damn, if Doom doesn't know it, even DOOM turns to Wikipedia. Don't trust it, Victor! Wikipedia lies!!!

Ooops. Didn't plan on that, did you Loki?

Two things you never even think of doing in Latveria. #1 Do not mess with Doom's mom. #2 Don't mess with his country.

(And slow down there, Balder. You're getting a second chin again.)

*edit* And yes, I do forsee a box of **Doom's Homemade Latverian Winkles** coming to the shelves of your supermarket soon.
Gotta have it!

the wikipedia part seems horribly out of character for doom . . . but i still love it!

Doom use wikipedia? When he has some of the finest libraries in the world (or I always imagine he has). Pah!

I'm also more of a fan of Doom as being a GOOD, if totalitarian, ruler of Latveria. His people wouldn't look malnourished, they'd look healthy and well fed (because that's what a ruler's subjects SHOULD look like), but always ever so slightly apprehensive, verging on terrified.

He might mean 'compared to the Asgardians'. Who are very buff beyond mortal standards.

Who do you think got banned for making all those reverted edits to Reed Richards' page?

Totally, it's been established in FF that Victor's people are not free by any stretch of the word but they are healthy, clothed, have jobs and I can't remember where but it was said that Doom had eliminated pollution and most diseases.

Maybe. On the other hand, he just got on Doom's shit list by threatening Latveria. Doom isn't dumb enough to trust Loki anyway, so this just serves to antagonize him. And threatening Latveria is basically the worst thing you can do besides being RIIIICHAAAAARDS!

Two things I like:
Balder showing that while he may not be as good at the game as Loki or Doom - lacking their viciousness - he still knows how to play.
The very Norse-helm effect of the shading on the mask in the last panel.

Doom does not look shit up on Wikipedia. He tells his kitchen staff, "There shall be winkles", and THEY have to look it up on Wikipedia.

Nor does he make lame excuses. "My people are not malnourished. They have as much as they require; more would simply make them fat and lazy. Such indulgences are best left to those of us with sufficient refinement to appreciate them."

I'll give 'em credit for nailing Loki's honeyed tongue and Balder's dry sarcasm, though.

Even if it leads to a replay of the time he told the kitchen staff that he REALLY fancied a plate of Klopeckian chinzeltrads, just like his dear mother had always made, partly out of curiosity about how long it would take them to tell him they'd never heard of them (which isn't really surprising as he'd just made the words up), and partly out of curiosity to see what they might produce and CLAIM were Klopeckian chinzeltrads

Wow.. Just loving that depiction of Doom, there, but then, I loved it when I saw the pencilled version. Thank God there's actually someone who knows how to write him, too, I've gotten so sick of Bendis' version, and Millar's version - With a man who taught Doom how to be evil, no less! - Is shit.

So, even with Coipel gone, it seems we're in rather good hands.

That's weird, I thought only people in the East End and English seaside towns ate winkles.

Love that version of Doom. ^^ Though what's with his eyes? Are they red and glowing? I thought that they were green? *puts it down to it varying from artist to artist*

And YIKES Loki is stacked! Which makes watching Hulk vs. Thor all the more strange...
