Action Comics # 876
.

In the last panel...that's Lois, right?

Well, that's... marginally less hideous than I've come to expect from Barrows.

What frightens me most is the legs. In that last scan...knees don't work that way. They look wayyyy too small to be holding up the rest of his body without him tearing his ACL or something. And his thighs are roughly the same size as his calves. That can happen if you're skinny or built quite lean, but judging by his chest, Chris isn't. His thighs should definatly be larger.

And that one panel of Ursa getting her goggles punched off is just plain terrifying.

Ursa isn't getting her goggles punched off. Chris used his telekinesis to break it apart.

That's because you expect nothing from Barrows.

No no, I expect hideousness from Barrows. Quite different.

....so why is Chris not a little boy anymore? And why is he naked jam wrestling in the Phantom Zone? I swear you take a brief comic break and the shit flips on a dime.

Random age spurts for the aging, and they're all out of the phantom zone now thanks to whatever the crazy ruler of NK is called.

They live in a Soap Opera. These things happen.

Aww.. he called Lois mom. I never thought I would, but I ended up really enjoying what Kurt Busiek did with Chris and the Super-Parentage during the time he was stuck with the character because Johns didn't wrap up his Zod arc.

Are there two different artists for this? Chris seems to be drawn so inconsistent between pages.

Reactions!

1. Yay Lois! *makes note to pick up next month's issue for the Lois-y goodness* I was worried that we wouldn't see that much of her since Supes was off having adventures on New Krypton, so yay!
2. "Hi Mom!" I like Chris, and am still disappointed he got superaged but um, shirtless he's quite muscly and once he gets the blood off of him....
3. Now I feel like a perv.

*hides*

Yes, I can't wait to see what happen next issue with chris interaction with lois and don't feel too bad. Chris had a rabid age spurt and looks about 18 now, so I think it okay to gawk at his body.

I'm now recalling that Chris, during his first stay on Earth, was said to be stronger than Clark was at his age. Was that ever explained?

Chris was specifically engineered to have the full range of Kryptonian powers at a young age, like heat and x-ray vision, hearing, flight, invunerability, strength, etc., but not necessarily at a level Clark has now, or even when Clark was say 22. Apparently he got Tactile Telekinesis as well.

Tactile Telekinesis was just a red herring thrown in by Geoff.

Rucka asked what the deal with it was when he was given Action Comics. Geoff says "Oh, red herring. You figure it out." Not fucking shitting you.

actually that might have something to do with being from the Phantom Zone. In this issue they make a point that Chris is different from standard Kryptonians.

While I'm glad to see more Chri and Lois parental interaction, I'm still upset that he is an adult.

I love what Rucka is doing with Ursa. Out of the three criminals put into the Zone, she's been given the least depth until now, given we got a really quite sombre backstory for Non, and Zod actually had a decent reason for going to war on the Science Council.

What terrifies me is that she's so bat-shit-crazy that she makes Zod look normal by comparison, and is probably the most vicious of the three.
