JLI #8 - Fixer-upper needs a little TLC
Found this at the local junk/comix shop today and flipping through it found myself reminded of s_d's current travails.

So, forthwith, I offer 5 pages + the cover + 1 preview image from issue #8 of Justice League International, by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, Kevin Maguire and Al Gordon.

Because it wouldn't be the JLI if somebody didn't twit J'onn about his Oreos Chocos. There's a punch line here, but I skipped it in the interests of space; the page works perfectly well without it.

(Sorry about the crooked scans here.) There's a metaphor in here someplace, but I can't quite seem to put my finger on it....

Anyhoo, Batman, Guy, Soviets, paranoia blah blah blah...Booster Beetle cranky Canary new bureau chief macking on Parisian chicks blows up in faces blah blah blah...

Has Mr. Miracle blown off that steam yet? I sure hope so, 'cause he's gonna need it.

Mods, y'all feel free to borrow that "ancient Martian meditation technique" now, hear? ;-)

I liked this book. It took chances. Sadly tho, it couldn't survive the original artist/writer leaving.

Oh JLI, it was fun, for the most part, while it lasted.

Oh, JLI. With it, this is starting to seem a bit more like the S_D of old. :D

The shuttle landing is particularly hilarious. I practiced Martin Manhunter's mediation technique just this Saturday morning.

All we need now is some Superdictionary.

Even after DC went back to the more traditional League makeup, I wish they could have kept the JLI name. The name change from JLA to JLI was quite deliberate, and I think it still makes sense. The Justice League defends the whole world - that's why their satellite is in space.

I agree. I've been rewatching my Justice League ani box sets, and the Unlimited concept made a lot of sense to me, organization-wise. J'onn might not be my pick to run it, but it seemed to work well.

They should just call it Justice League. Like the cartoon. Like even most of the characters end up calling it nowadays. Justice League. "I got the Justice League. That's a plan."

"We're the Justice League. We've beaten up real gods and made them cry."

OH MY GOD! J'ONN'S OREA OBSESSION IS BASED IN FACT! I never knew this. It's kind of amazing.

Truefax: Martians love oreas.

AWESOME

"orea"??? I am an idiot. I did it twice! Oreo. Oreo. How do I edit comments?

Choco. Choco! For legal reasons, apparently. I assume #8 predates the Oreo Smackdown.

But yeah, canon! And as proof I offer this lovely animated icon from [info]prophet_of_void. (see above)

On LJ only paid accounts can edit comments. IJ, I'm not sure if anyone can.

I have used the ancient Martian meditation technique line, actually. :)

Now, a request: The showdown between the JLI and the Joker from the annual that was published the same month (same week, I believe) as The Killing Joke. Batman's actions at the end, alone... :)

See, I look at these scans and all I can think of is "why did they have to kill off J'onn?". He was too awesome for this world. *sniffle*

And that cover never fails to crack me up with Canary's "HMM, where should those heavy crates you're lifting go? HMM, give me more time to think."

Inorite? I've been crushing on the DCAU J'onn as I rewatch the box sets. Heard Carl Lumbly's voice in my head all through this. Whatta lucky little middle-aged Asian lady that was that landed JJ!

This is my Justice League. Could you please post the page in Justice League #40 where Batman and Superman are talking after Mr. Miracle's funeral. Written by Keith Giffen. Art by Adam Hughes.
