That ended on more of a hopeful note than I expected. (Figured the priest would turn out evil and take over the gangs).

Not much of a twist after part one - but a not-entirely sad ending is nice once in while.

One, nice art.
Two, I'd like to think the priest settled down with a woman who was willing to overlook his deformity, and shortly before he left to protect his family, they had a kid named Walter Kovacs.

Is this story based on real-life events? The bit about 'the newspapers and the American people' make it sound like this was an extrapolation on an actual, long-running news story.

Well, there was (is?) a Gambino crime family, but I'm pretty sure that they were centered in New York rather than New Orleans. Nothing like this is mentioned in the history of the Matranga crime family, which was (is?) the major force in New Orleans OC. I strongly suspect that this story is a complete fabrication.
