Preview for Fables #83
IGN.com has a preview up for Fables #83, which is the first issue of The Great Fables Crossover that begins this coming Wednesday and runs for three months through three issues of Fables (83-85), Jack of Fables(33-35), and The Literals (new miniseries created specifically for this event).

It is also the first issue to feature a cover by new cover artist Joao Ruas.

Can I just say beforehand that the art is gorgeous. Blue's armor, Stinky the Badger and Clara the Raven all look fantastic. It's good to see Mark Buckingham draw the Farm again because he rocks at animals.

I'm really hesitant for this crossover. I hate the idea of the Literals and have never liked Jack all too much. But it should at least be an entertaining three months and I'll enjoy getting Fables-related stuff 3 weeks a month.

Nnngh. I don't WANT to have to read a second title I don't care about in order to know what's going on in a title I do care about.

So true. I'm barely keeping up with Fables via trades, not at all interested in Jack at this point (though I do have the first trade), and not planning on buying Literals. Girl's gotta eat at some point.

If you're buying it in trades, I imagine all nine parts of the crossover are going to be collected together in one volume.

Hey, just do what I'm going to do and think of it as Fables coming out three times a week for the next three months. It's not as if there weren't Jack spotlight issues of Fables in the past.

That's what I'm doing, because I would not normally pick up Jack anyway.

I do feel sort of insulted that I'm either forced to read about stuff I don't like or not get my Fables fix for 3 entire months. I'm hoping that I'll like the Literals more in the style of Fables than what I've seen in the goofy style of Jack.

I'm not sure why, especially because it's been a long time since I've read this, but this scene totally reminds me of the ape Shift promoting Tashlan in the Chronicles of Narnia. Didn't he start wearing clothes to appear human-like, much like Stinky's eyes have changed to appear more... blue-like?

Doens't this seem like that Magical Go-Around movie with Boxton, the blue cat?
