Welcome to the NHK! Suicide, hallucinations, porn, drugs, and everything else we love about Japan!
This is Sakurakon from LJ
I come with manga!
The title pretty much explains the series, but I'll give you a little summary from wikipedia:
Welcome to the N.H.K. revolves around the lives of several young-adults all living in or around the city of Tokyo. Many different lifestyles are shown though most of the time the story focuses on the concepts of being a hikikomori, anime otaku, and having most of the characters experience intense feelings of depression and loneliness.
The main protagonist is Tatsuhiro SatÅ, a university dropout entering his fourth year of unemployment. He leads a reclusive life as a hikikomori, ultimately coming to the bizarre conclusion that this happened due to some sort of conspiracy. One day just when his life seems entirely unchanging, he meets Misaki Nakahara, a mysterious girl who claims to be able to cure Tatsuhiro of his hikikomori ways.
Well, it sucks to be him?
I'll have to skip an amusing scene where he tries to chop a beer bottle in half thinking he is a karate master and awkwardly trying to converse with the religious pamphlet lady and him imagining the young girl in a very NSFW way...oh the pervert...he reads the pamphlet on the previous page which asks if your children are at risk for the hikikomori's poison to society...or something like that.
Drug trip time~~!
In a disturbing way, this reminds me of The Brave little Toaster...
Thanks to the guidance of his home appliances, he found out that his is involved in a "conspiracey" by the TV company the NHK to turn everyone into an otaku or a hikikomori (or both). BUT! He will not fall into their trap so he decides to apply for a part time job!
Or course, being well...who he is, a crap load of awkward conversations like "DO YOU LIKE HARLEY MOTORCYCLES?!" ensues, but those scans are for another time...
