Lamest villain escape ever...
Photobucket

Batman and the Huntress investigate the murder of one of their own...

Photobucket

My eldest brother loved this cover. A pissed off Batman waving the finger around the room as to who killed Mr.Terrific.

Photobucket

The Huntress gets to take point. Nice.

Batman asking for help ???? you know it must be pre-crisis...

Photobucket

Whoops the JLA satellite must have used Vista...

Photobucket

Photobucket

Dun-dun, DUH.

Photobucket

This is totally weak. Its like watching JV football practice. Wearer still this where the story is left for years. I wasn't until a decade later in the pages of the Spector that the ending is revealed and the Spector settles accounts with the Shadow king.

Photobucket

Special Bonus. This crossover also was the last appearance of the the Power Girl leotard outfit. After this it was boob window all the way. This is an add for the crossover. On the cover is the old costume, in the ad is the new one :)

I love how Jay's in the background on the cover. Is Batman pointing at a mirror slightly angled?

No, he is pointing at a person. From the cape your supposed to ge the idea its Superman, or Powergirl.

Maybe the mirror is covered. I would love that. Only Batman would be able to tell that a covered mirror is angled exactly so that his accusing finger is still pointed at the Flash from Earth-2.

Pretty pretty art. I'm not normally a fan of the Dick Dillin stuff, but this time out it looks great.

That...must be some kind of superduper foundation garment Huntress is wearing under her costume. "Lifts and separates" indeed!

E-1 Bats is always so sweet with E-2 Helena. I wish they had the chance to interact more.

I'm trying to think of something more pathetic, and the closest I can get is Sivana dropping a bright shiny object down that storm drain--except that it could plausibly be something valuable. Where did Mary fly to? Estonia?

Although, come to think of it, the little hunchbacked man running away while the cop just stands there and whines for the superheroine to chase him is pretty damn pathetic as well. Reminds me of the cops in City of Heroes who run around with their hands in the air, wavin' 'em around like they just don't care.

I love the cop's expression: "But he can't be gone! I left him right here!"

Sivana is lucky everyone on Earth-S is stupider and slower than him.

In that preview panel, it looks like Batman is pulling a couple of condoms out of his utility belt. "Meet me in the Monitor Room..." O_O

I think you're mistaken on PG's costume. The boob window version was the original one...the image in that ad is lifted from her first appearance. The scoop-neck version seen here was after that, and it lasted a good long while, through her Infinity Inc. appearances, her mini-series, and on into Justice League Europe. She had a couple of other outfits after that. I'm not sure when exactly they finally reinstated the classic boob-window costume, but it was fairly recently.

I usually like the preview panel to be something removed form context...and then see what people's imagination can come up with.

Correct. This was pre Crisis (CoIE) Earth 2 Batman dies in 1979,he married Catwoman and they had a daughter. Some how Earth 1 Batman is able to resist hooking up with Huntress before she is killed in the Crisis.

Something everyone forgets when they think of Morrison's Earth-3 as "Earth-2"--no, actually that was their Luthor's word for REGULAR Earth.

So I think it's a matter of calling it first.

[info]jlroberson

I don't mean she's the Earth-2 Babs, but she is the police commissioner's daughter and she is basically Earth-2's equivalent. (If Earth-2 had a Babs, she lived at a time when women wouldn't have thought of doing that and might have died a spinster librarian)

We all know here just how popular Babs was in the 70s, and this was DC's try at creating a somewhat different one. And possibly preventing another company from coming up with it too.

Also: I note that this Huntress was created around the same time as she appeared in that LEGENDS OF THE SUPERHEROES thing on TV, leading me to think this might have been also meant as a Batgirl they could use in other media without having to worry about existing deals revolving around the Bat-characters.

But then again, they also didn't quite know what they were doing then. I give you TV's Huntress.

Is that pink or lavender, or just the seventh shade of suck?

A FEW questions:

(a) So, what was revealed later in SPECTRE?
(b) Couldn't he just depart Garrick's body?
(c) Uh, they DIDN'T guard the single most obvious way of leaving?
(d) All they had to do is point and the Spirit King would reveal himself? I'd make them MAKE me come out.

Apart from that, great plotting. What's left anyway...

And the worst part is...thats he end of the story, theres no more. The next issue starts up like so and the JLA tries to get Black Lightning to join. The Specter recounts how the Sprit king was brought to justice, its the same issue as when he talks the New Mr. Teriffic into being. Jay talks about the inicident in a JSA issue a few year back I seem to recall . Anyone ?

Firstly, it appears that the Spirit King was a bit of a misogynistic, homicidal maniac:

"Back in the original Golden Age of heroes, Roger Romaine began to kill women in the city of Portsmouth, believing that he would thus absorb their spirits and gain command of the dead to use against the living world. Although he was hunted by Mister Terrific, he was eventually banished to Hell by the Spectre, despite Terrific's insistence that the families of Romaine's victims deserved to see him stand trial."

Check that: Mr. Terrific BANISHED HIM TO HELL. Beat that for badassery, Batman.

And as for what happened later:

"Now trapped in Hell, Romaine made a deal with the demon Shatain, gaining the power to possess and use the bodies of others in exchange for giving Shatain the chance to confront the Spectre. Returning to Earth shortly before the annual meeting with the Justice Society and the Justice League on the League's satellite headquarters, the Spirit King subsequently possessed the body of Jay Garrick, the first Flash, and was able to travel to the satellite. Although Mister Terrific deduced his true identity, the villain killed Terrific, using Flash's super speed so nobody could see who the killer was. Eventually discovering the truth, the JSA chased the Spirit King to Earth, but in the ensuing battle, the Spirit King assumed control of Doctor Fate, and, together with Shaitan, almost succeeded in defeating the Spectre. However, the spirit of Mister Terrific returned and disrupted the connection between Romaine and Shaitan, banishing the Spirit King to Hell once again, although Jay was left feeling guilty about his inability to stop the King using him to kill his friend."

Yeah, it was strange. I always assumed there was some story as to why they didn't just do another part to the cross over. Aslo nothing to tell people the story picked up in Adventure comics. This was back in the newsstand days so I can imagine much confusion in the boys .
