Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:char: cyclops/scott summers, char: deadpool/wade wilson, char: domino/neena thurman, char: wolverine/logan/james howlett, creator: chris yost, creator: craig kyle, creator: mike choi, creator: sonia oback, event: messiah war

Whatever happened to the Deadpool of tomorrow?

Four scans from X-Force/Cable: Messiah War #1, in which X-Force goes into one of the many post-apocalyptic futures in circulation and run into a familiar face.

Someone opens fire, nearly killing Vanisher:

I don't normally find Deadpool all that funny, but this (and Wolverine's frustration) totally is.

Also, here's a scan from earlier in the issue, as Cyclops exposits about everything that happened up to this point:

After Whedon and co.'s best efforts to totally destroy any relationship between them, those lines gratify me; I'm a total sucker for that father/son dynamic (it's relative absence from Wolverine and the X-Men is one of the things that most disappoints me about it (which, otherwise, I generally enjoy)).

Other notes:

- Choi & Oback rock really, really hard.

- Doing the tags for this I totally had to look up whatever Dom's real name is.

Doesn't it look like Domino's all happy to see Wade there?

I'm bothered by the missing right eye, though. I mean, he could regrow entire limbs at one point, what's an eye between us? ;p

Was just gonna say. Normally the eyes of the costume are whited out, right? Looks like he has a cracked lens left covering one eye and the other's missing.

If you don't mind checking out trades instead, most major bookstores are carrying it. It's in the kiddie section.

How about Dr. DOOM and the masters of evil? It's like a Marvel ripoff of Secret Six. And therefore good.

I have several things to say:
A: Deadpool, as always, is hilarious.
B: I first read his line as 'the Emperor of North AFRICA', and for some reason found it much funnier that way. Psychology is weird.
C: What the hell is Logan doing in the red-eyed grey-and-black Batman-wannabe outfit, and how long has he been wearing it? If ever there was character who didn't need to get MORE grim-'n-gritty...
D: I recognize Deadpool, Domino and Logan, but who are those other two guys?
E: Why are they in the future, anyway? And what's the deal with the giant bone monster-serpent-thing?
D: What's with all the red eyes?

For C: 'Cause that's how everyone else is dressing? A disguise so that he fits in better during the dark'n'dirty future? Makes him more appealing to the S&M fanbase? =/ Hmm. No idea how long he's been wearing it though.
For D: Vanisher (tattoo guy) and Warpath (hooded guy)
For E: To find Cable, who has Hope the first mutant born since the M-day thing. Cable and Hope are jumping through time to escape the pursuing Bishop who wants to kill her. Or something. That's all I got.
For F: Makes the character "edgier". Or something.

Man, am I out of touch with the Marvel Universe these days. Still, I'm not so sure I WANT to be in touch with a series where everyone wears black and grey and has red eyes - one person is fine, but EVERYONE? Doesn't it make people a little difficult to tell apart? I mean, wouldn't it be, to say the least, awkward, if not downright dangerous, if you mistook Wolverine for your curvy feminine love interest during the confusion of the thick of battle? "But, but, Logan, come on, you gotta understand here - she's got red eyes and wears grey, and so do you, and, and, and the Sentinel was just about to kill us, I thought, and I figured, I might as well give my girl one last kiss before I die, and we were all in heavy shadow, see, and... Aw, c'mon, man, it was an honest mistake! You don't have to be so ANGRY about it - I'm sure the others will stop laughing eventually."

Wolverine's wearing the black costume because a black copy of his uniform makes him completely unrecognizable while as a member of X-Force. Really!

What? The logic is flawless. By using known members of the X-Men and putting them in black copies of their old costumes, Cyclops gains the perfect black ops team. It's not as if only a handful of people in the world have claws like Wolverine and X-23. No CSI team could ever connect their stab wounds to the X-Men!

...anyone remember when they put actual thought into spy books? Damn Bendis...

C: It's the X-Force costume standard.
E: Cable time-travelled into the future with the baby saviour, and, having not heard from him in a while, Cyclops is sending X-Force in after them. The monster is Predator X, one of the threats from "Messiah Complex", the storyline that introduced the baby.

That is dumb. He's following him because they haven't heard from him in a while? Well, of COURSE they haven't; he's in the FUTURE! What do they expect him to do, whip out his cellphone and give them a call?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]aaron_bourque

As one of Scott's internal monologues says, it's time travel.

(Reply to this) (Parent)

[info]daningram
2009-03-27 03:26 pm UTC (link)
Actually, they should have expected to hear from him. If Cable could time travel freely, then he could have spent ten years in the future and then come back in a week, when the heat was off.

Honestly, a better question would be 'Why did Cable go into the future?'. In the series itself, Cable time jumps randomly. Why did anyone expect that to make them safe?

(Reply to this) (Parent)

[info]colonel_green
2009-03-27 03:43 pm UTC (link)
Uh, no, it's perfectly logical. If Cable's time-travelling, he could come back the moment he departed. Cyclops later found out that he could only go forward in time, so he ordered X-Force to go after him with different travel equipment to bring them back.

A. Of course. It's Deadpool! And lately he's EVERYWHERE!
C. X-Force are an undercover black ops X-Men team. Normal, black outfits are the must. He's worn it for a bit now, at least in the current X-Force book. Also towards the end of that whole mess with the baby. They're hunters, and must blend into the night.
D. There are actually more people there too, but these scans don't show them.
Warpath: Apache mutant who is very cool.
Vanisher: Freaking douche bag, with lots of tattoos.
Then the people you don't see:
Angel: Current Archangel. To understand THAT I suggest picking up the X-Force books, cause seriously... I was confused as hell until I did.
Elixir: Yeah.... read X-Force for THAT confusion too.
X-23: Wolverine's there, so she's gotta be too.

E. They are in the future because Scott Summers is a douche bag! But you don't get to see that in those scans or in the little flash back. Actually, they are there to fall right into Bishop's trap, and to "help" Cable. Giant bone monster is actually a mutant hunter, who likes to eat mutants. Yum.

D. Only 3 of X-Force have red lenses in their masks. Warpath, X-23, and Wolverine. I guess it goes along with the: We're hunters, we're animals, FEAR US! Type thing.

Sorry long comment is long...

Uhhh, all the members with the masks already have night vision. And if someone's not intimidated by the sharp, indestructable metal that's readily at hand, red eyes isn't going to help one bit.
