One Piece: The Arlong Arc Part 2

Previously we found out that Nami had a checkered past involving the dread merman pirate Arlong and his crew. Something happened involving her mother but what has not been revealed yet. Zoro has escaped and is looking for a boat to get back to Luffy and the rest of the crew. Usopp tried to stop Arlong and was captured for his efforts. As a test of loyalty Nami was forced to kill Usopp. It looks like she succeeded.

Luffy and the other crew members are able to land on the island after wrangling a giant seacow, a guard for Arlong.

Happily a Marine ship has come to rescue the island and defeat Arlong

Uh....

The three mermen captains are able to disable the ship, injure the Marine Captain and create whirlpool. Shit.

Meanwhile one of the pirate hunters tells the Straw Hats that he saw Nami kill Usopp. Luffy calls bullshit and says that his friend Nami would never do that.

Luffy tells her he isn't leaving without her because she's his friend and navigator. He's pretty awesome like that. Nami flips out and tells them all to get off the island as fast as possible and to never come back.

Meanwhile....

Usopp runs off to find Zoro and try and tell him to stay away from Arlong park but...

Meanwhile Nami has gone to her childhood home after desperately trying to get the Straw Hats to leave the island. Her sister walks in to find the house in shambles after Nami rages about her life.

Nami falls asleep and we get to meet the second biggest asshole in this entire arc, the douchebag marine captain who likes bribes.

Nami then wakes up at home and some memories return to her.

Lil Nami is god damn adorable. And Nojika kicks ass. Nami stops dreaming but then her sister comes and meets the Straw Hats. She offers to tell them the story of their past. Luffy couldn't care less because nothing could change the fact that he will get Nami back because they're friends. Again, evidence that Luffy owns.

The story is still told though

Nami runs away to the village leader's home crying. He tells her the story of how they came to the villiage. Belmeil was a marine who found both of them on a war torn island. She didn't know either of their parents but she would raise them anyway. Yeah, enjoy this heart warming stuff now because shit's gonna go real bad, real soon.

Then it happens.

The Arlong pirates arrive and quickly take over the island. Because they're gigantic assholes they deciede to create a tax system on every man, woman and child.

Sadly one of the mermen notices Nami's home. Yeah, get ready everybody.

Belmeil kindly informs Arlong that she does not roll like that and kicks him in his punk ass face and shoves a god damn rifle in his mouth. Don't fuck with this woman's family.

Sadly that's not enough and Arlong is able to bite through the gun and take her down.

Belmiel deciedes to allow her kids to live on the island and says her money is for the children and not her. Hoo boy, here we go.

FUCK
ARLONG
Yes, he just shot a mother, point blank in the god damn head, in front of her small children. Very, very few villains in the series come even close to how much of a supreme piece of shit Arlong is.

But he isn't finished being pure evil yet!

Yes he decides to KIDNAP THE GRIEVING CHILD OF THE WOMAN HE JUST MURDERED. Jesus Christ, was he in a contest to see how fucking awful he could possibly be?

Yeah, also the series isn't done being sad as hell yet as Nami returns to the village after some time.

I like the horrible fact that Arlong also gave a small child a god damn tattoo as well. He really doesn't half ass that whole "Terrible waste of flesh" thing.

Later, Nami reveals why she's working with Arlong

So now we know both her full past and why she was a thief. She's been trying to steal enough money to buy back her town.

We also learned that Arlong is terrible. Don't worry, he gets his well deserved ass kicking very, very soon. And it is as wonderful as you could imagine. Sadly he isn't killed horribly, but you can't always win.

Next time, the battle begins.

This was the first really EPIC arc. It just hit me in the guts that this was what the series was going to be like.

I share the exact same sentiments

this may be a goofy manga, but there is some really intense stuff in one piece too

Agreed.

I actually think Sanjo and Nami's stories were what struck out the most with me.

And from this manga, the one scene that really got to me from the Arlong arc that wasn't posted was when Nami whispered "Please..." to Luffy, and Luffy, not requiring any explanation, leaves his straw hat with her and tells the team to come with him to take out Arlong.

I think the reason that was powerful was two things: 1.) it shows how much Luffy cares about his teammates, not bothering with side-stories or lies, and just goes on the thought: "they fucked with my teammates; that alone is the only reason why I need to do this" and 2.) the fact that Luffy leaves his straw hat with Nami, a hat he cherishes very much, was a somber point that Luffy doesn't expect to survive the battle, and leaving the hat with Nami ensures she'll take care of it, but also, at that point, Nami realizes that Luffy was willing to die for her and village.

A true pirate captain, through and through/

Does anybody really care about the rest of the crew after the first five? Like, would anybody care if Tony, Nico, Franky, and Brook went off somewhere and we never saw them again?

????

Tony had a pretty awesome backstory as well and is honestly great for comedic relief, Nico's pretty intregal to the plot it seems as she's the one that can read the World History, plus she's really fun too. Franky is just awesome and Brook is seriously awesome as well.

I think most people love em all.

considering that one of the best arcs so far involved Nico being kidnapped by the world Government, and the Straw Hat pirates coming in and fighting off the deadliest assassin groups in the world Government, yeah, I'd say the new guys are cared for.

Plus; Franky and Brook are fucking awesome. Chopper too.

That's the great thing about one piece; Unlike Dragonball Z and a few other animes, the weaker characters don't become useless by the later arcs, as demonstrated in the straw hats vs. Pacifista on the archipelago, or the Straw Hat vs. Oars.

Robin also has the single best moment in One Piece so far when she declares that she wants to live and go with the Straw Hats.

Enies Lobby was ridiculously awesome.

And Robin's backstory is as tragic as Nami's.

Oh and little Robin (ESPECIALLY in the anime) is the most adorable thing EVER.

Honestly, I'm stumped as to who could beat Arlong out for King Asshole.

Crocodile was a dick and all but he was so badass I sort of forgave him. Plus his recent actions have redeemed him to me.

Enel was just sort of douche. His powers were cool but Skypia in general just dragged on he lost his evilness.

Lucci may come close, he's an evil fucker, plus he's such a smug asshole that when he gets his ass beat you love it.

Spandem and his dad may make it because they're both scheming whiny assholes who basically ruined Robin's life.

Blackbeard is just fucking awesome.

The World Nobles are probably it because holy hell, the shit they do to Hancock was deserving of a mega asskicking.

Maybe DonFlamingo, I mean he did control the Human Auction House, plus he made Bellamy's best bud murder him, which was a pretty dick move.

I think only the World Nobles come close.

Yes, Doflamingo is involved in the slave trade, but the World Nobles are the ones that enable that.

Also, casually killing people and destroying families without feeling remorse.

And! If you count the World Leaders as part of the Nobles, goddamn. Dudes are evil to the bone.

After the Whitebeard War, and the whole crew is back together, I really want an arc of Luffy and his crew joining up with Hancock and a god damn armada of Amazon ships with Amazon warriors to just roll up on the World Nobles home island and just start ruining people's shit.
