Dr. Strange just said "back in the day."

Also, I love the last comment about not having to feel responsible for every little thing that goes wonky when he actually does very little about anything.

...hey Stephen, remember when you decided to teach Billy Kaplan magic? Those, like, two issues of New Avengers? (It only took up a few pages, the Hood attacked.) It would have been really cool if that had gone somewhere. When I read 'brand new student', I was so excited for a Wiccan/Dr. Strange mini.

Not that this doesn't look fun, but it was a little disappointing.

At least he talked to Billy. Nico got featured in a bunch of promotional stuff about Strange finding his replacement and then she isn't even mentioned in the book.

I was hoping Billy too. COME ON MARVEL. Billy is awesome and adorable and wonderfully snarky. Plus Speed could pop in whenever he was bored and mess with all the magic stuff. It'd be great.

"Those are $1200 dollar frames asshat!'

If this was supposed to endear me to the character it didn't work.

I'm crushing your head, rich bitch...I'm crushing your head...

The spunky female sidekick, that'll end well. I wonder how long Tria-I mean new girl will last.

As I've said other places, Venture Brothers has totally ruined Dr. Strange for me.

Yeah, I read this page with him having Orpheus' voice, too. And with that girl who looks like Triana, this could totally be a Venture Bros. comic.

Yeah, the fact that he does kind of look like Orpheus here doesn't help either.

Alas poor me and my "I should write Doctor Strange".

Which had him with a cute tomboyish foil.

But yeah, MGK had a nice widescreen mad-universe spin.

And Mark Waid's love affair with Russell T. Davies's DOCTOR WHO that began with Qubit in IRREDEEMABLE continues, I see.

I have no problem with that.

Doctor Who feels like a good vibe to give Doctor Strange, I can't say I'd be opposed to that as long as Stephen isn't pulling out his Audible Adjuster to take out the dreaded Faleks.

Is Kevin Smith writing this? 'Cause it feels as out of character as those recent Batman / Aquaman scans...

nah, Mark Waid. Strange also seems to be purposefully acting a little out of character here.

Uh-oh. First damn thing Waid always does is try to make a character something he imagines the young folks will relate to. And it always feels like your dad dancing to hip-hop. Speaking of which: remember "Clobberin' Time" in FF. (one of the better arguments against attempts to verbally simulate music in comics)

Having looked at it: oh yeah, lots of texting right there at the start. You're so hip, Waid! And your stories don't instantly date at all.

She also looks way to anime for my tastes, and the styles clash poorly.

Not really my point. My point is that Waid has that because he thinks it's hip.

Or because it's a reflection of the real world where there are lots and lots of people who text-message.

Emma Rios is such a great artist, I'm glad Marvel gave her a mini.
Now if they could give her some New Mutants issues before the title gets axed...

Okay. I'm liking this.

To be honest, I've always had a weakness for spunky female sidekicks (hence my love of Jubilee, and Mattie Franklin) and I think for some reason that Dr. Strange would go especially well with one.

Then again, as mentioned, i unashamedly like the concept, so...

I'm going to keep telling myself to give it a chance, wait till I've seen a whole issue.

Still. I keep thinking that creating a new character wasn't really necessary.
