Red Robin 6 and Batgirl 4 Previews

Full RR preview here,
http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2009/11/10/writer-chris-yost-gives-you-the-top-10-reasons-to-check-out-red-robin-6-with-a-preview/

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Reasons Chris Yost says you should read it,
"10. Superstar artist Marcus To joins the team with this issue!

9. Marcus To’s rendition of Red Robin leading a gang of ninjas into battle.

8. Marcus To’s rendition of ninjas dying horrible deaths at the hands of Recluse, a member of the Council of Spiders (the same people that are hunting the League of Assassins for sport).

7. Marcus To’s rendition of Vicki Vale, who’s got some questions for Bruce Wayne/Hush. Which is going to mean trouble for Tim Drake.

6. The flashbacks are almost over. But this issue’s flashback is particularly sexy. And drawn by Marcus To!

5. BLACKEST NIGHT CROSSOVER!! Well, kind of. Tim mentions his little adventure in BLACKEST NIGHT: BATMAN, but most importantly Marcus To draws him mentioning it.

4. Editor Mike Marts put a hundred dollar bill in one of the copies!

3. Marcus To’s rendition of Tam Fox, daughter of Wayne Enterprises’ CEO Lucius Fox, getting into even MORE trouble.

2. Marcus To’s rendition of Tim Drake being awesome in general as he takes charge of the League of Assassins.

1. The writing. PSYCH! It’s Marcus To. (But hopefully the writing’s okay)"

Sexy flashback? With Tim? Does not compute! Seriously, if he ends up actually have sex (since this is Tim we're talking about he probably won't) seems kind of sad it happen with someone he's only just met, rather than, say, Steph for example.

Though he burnt that bridge my gutpunching her, so that's probably for the best.

And with MTV we have an interview about Batgirl, which also includes a preview. :)

The preview looks good. :) Continuing with the vagurly Batman Beyondish set up I see.

My one real complain is that the yellow on purple text boxes are really hard to read.

And the loose belt looks like it might interfere with walking and stuff.

Psh. You know Dinah got the ipod mod. XD

I still don't like that font for the Batgirl name. Between that and the yellow-on-purple this title is laboring under some crappy lettering.

Either the purple or the yellow needs to be lighter, that's for sure. Seriously, like basic color theory, people. Five seconds on google, I mean it.

A hundred a month? That seems way high. Government officials and business leaders should be pretty rare, it's criminal syndicates that put hits on each other. Other than that, the hunters being hunted is a kind of cool story.

My name is Tim Drake.
Huh. I get the Tim Drake/Tim Wayne thing confused.

There better not be anything going on between Tim and Prudence. Or Tim and Tam (although that kinda has a ring ... no! No Tim and Tam!) Or Tim and anyone that doesn't wear purple and live in Gotham. Ok, Tim and Kon maybe.

My one real complaint is that the yellow on purple text boxes are really hard to read.
*gasp* I'll pretend you didn't say that. The link to once and future Spoiler is sacrosanct!

As for Tim and Spoiler, based on all the crazy stuff going on in the Morrison/Dini/Yost Bat-books, it seems like Miller's Batgirl is in a whole nother universe. And I'm calling that Steph sees some sexy "action" with her new contrived love interest (the one with the girlfriend) before Tim sees any. It's as if DC just does not want the boy to get lucky ever.

I read in a review somewhere that said Tam is...Tim's new love interest. So TimTam it is.

I love the new RR artist's work. Such clean lines! A significant step up from the old one.

Oh, yes, please get that boy some action. He needs to get laid so bad I can't even tell you.

Am I the only one here who is completely and utterly UNINTERESTED in reading Red Robin?

Is all that supposed to make me more interested? Because I really am not. Clearly I'm not the right sudience for this...but yeah, since the first issue, I haven't garnered any interest for this character onr bit. I dare say the new Azrael seems more interesting...and I wasn't even that impressed by him at all.

So...what's wrong with me? Why is RR such eye-rolling fare to me?

That said...*sighs* can someone please tell DC to stop making Barbara so...serious? I get why they're doing it, but I do not approve. If they really wanted serious older woman, they could've just gone with Dr. Leslie. *sighs*

I love Tim and I love angst, but Red Robin bores the crap out of me. I mean, when Action Comics writes Tim better than his own title, something ain't right. His characterization is off (both in art and writing) and the plot is careening around into stall-territory. The characters they're introducing are blah.

So, it's not just you.

And I totally agree about Barbara! Where's the teasing, mischievous Babs of olden days? She can be serious sometimes and humorous others! She's morphed into an embittered authority figure here.

She's drawn well though so there's that.

She doesn't seem too serious here. She's smiling when she's talking to Steph most of the time and she repeats the "or thirsty for justice" like she's amused by it...the "I suppose you'll have to hum" seems like a dry comeback, as well.

So does that mean Red Robin's going to be interesting soon? Because I've been impressed by this comic's ability to make me bored by one of my favorite characters. Totally don't give a crap about a barrel o' ninjas. Vicki Vale storyline has potential. I am skeptical about Tim being involved in sexiness. Could go out of character so easily, however if they pull it off, I'll be a very happy girl indeed.

Yeah, they should lighten up that purple and put a different color text for Batgirl, but it's well done otherwise! I'm looking forward to a new issue.

I could just be optimistic but I can't see Tim being Red Robin forever. At some point Bruce is going to comeback or Tim will proof to the rest of the bat-verse that Bruce is still out their the whole search for Batman thing can't last forever

Well, I think it's pretty unlikely that Tim will be allowed to go back to being Robin when Bruce does return. That seems to be a delusion Tim's laboring under, but whether he's ready to acknowledge it or not he's more than outgrown the role in terms of what Bruce allows it to be for any of his partners.

But I agree Tim needs a new costume, and probably a new name. I'll cry if he has to stay in this one for any length of time post-Bruce's return. Ugh.

I think Damian will stay as Robin regardless of Bruce or Dick being batman. I would like to see Tim get a new hero persona, Nightwing is taken and to be honest that was Dick's post Robin identity it doesn't really fit Tim.

The whole 'Red Robin' idea is stupid but at the very least I would accept a drastic change to the costume if DC's going to have Tim parade around as RR when Bruce comes back

I really hope you're right so he can stop running around looking like a black penis.

I'm sort of skeptical they'll have Bruce come back in the Red Robin comics, though I suppose they would make it into an event that shows up in quite a few titles.

Yeah I expect it to either be a small crossover event like Battle For The Cowl and take place maybe next year, or a regular 'summer' crossover but that would have to wait since I think Krypton vs. Earth is going to be next year's summer event.

Not to mention the fact that when Bruce returns it will almost certainly be Morrison writing it and not Yost, Dini, etc. I do like the fact though that Red Robin is someplace where the "Mystery of Bruce Wayne" can play out and clues can be planted so we know no one has forgotten it (it seems like everyone has moved on from Bruce's death in every other DCU book).

Steph really deserves a billion times better than Tim, and for her sake I hope to hell the breakup sticks. But I'd always hoped that Tim would lose his virginity to... well, if not Steph, then someone else he knew well and cared about. If only because Tim strikes me as the kind of guy who would regret it later on if he did end up losing it to a one night stand or some equivalent. He certainly could have had plenty of sex by now if putting a checkmark in the "laid" box was in any way important to him, and I'd hate to see DC treat it that way, if that makes any sense.

And I'm completely in love with the Batgirl costume. Just the right combination of pretty and practical, minus the WTF belt, of course.

Really

See, I've always thought of it from the other way around- Tim was kind of settling, especially post-Africa, when any pretense of trust became a bit impossible- I mean Zoanne seemed like a better fit frankly, she was bright, dedicated and she didn't you know fake her death and leave the country without telling someone she expected to trust her ever again.

Well, I think it's a relationship they've both outgrown at this point. They were sweet together and right for what they were at the time, but they've both grown up and outgrown the need for it. Steph certainly no longer needs to hang on to a guy who gives her no support whatsoever and gutpunches her for no reason while repeatedly assuming he has the right to dictate whether or not she's allowed to wear a costume and jump off buildings. I mean, Tim's just a messed up kid too, so I wouldn't say any of those things make him a bad person or even an inherently shitty boyfriend, just really the wrong guy for Steph at this point in her life. They can both do better, IMO.
