Come to think of it, "you can yank a mask off in an instant" is a pretty good rationale for the make-up mask. I mean, think about how many times Batman's gotten knocked out by people who proceeded to not take his mask off and find out his secret identity because... because that would be cheating, gosh darn it! When Black Canary gets knocked out, people don't take her mask off and find out her secret identity not because they've randomly developed a sense of honor, they don't do it because they don't have any cold cream and cotton rounds lying around the secret hideout. Assuming that some smeared eyeliner will completely hide your identity, of course. But domino masks can do it, so hey, there's no reason not to extend the principle.

It's got kind of a cool 'war paint' vibe, too. Y'know, I hated the mascara mask on Smallville, but I think I'm talking myself into it.
