When Babs met Lois Lane
From Gail's run on BoP comes one of my favorite Lois showings in a non-Superman book.

Context: Babs is in trouble with a government agent she used to know who is seeking to control her. While she's talking to Katarina--the government agent--someone interrupts them. (Note that the first two scans are from BoP 101, whereas the rest are from BoP 102, thus staying within the scan number limits.)

Haha, I wouldn't use Max Lord as an example there, his bizarre heel turn for "Sacrifice" is still a sore point around here.

Anyway, point stands, I'm quite skeptical that Lois, given the information "ties to the JLA," wouldn't investigate what those ties were and turn up Barbara's membership.

Well, there's nothing there that says she didn't. But she ALSO had solid evidence, most likely including video since Kat was at the Pentagon during the incident, of Oracle's team taking out a Mexican prison, on top of all the other allegations.

And canon is still canon. Max Lord had a longer and closer knit "Ties to the JLA" than Oracle did by far.

I think there's just a huge misread for some about this. Lois DID actually walk away. She took Babs' measure, was not frightened by Babs' empty threat, left a clear warning, and threw the fish back in the water.

It's our fault, DC's, I mean, because we really have fallen down on the job of showing Lois as a terrifyingly good investigative reporter. I always thought that we did the Luthor/Lois relationship wrong--I think he has all the power, and yet he still gets a little wee bit nervous when she walks in the room, because she is so unbelievably dangerous.

But we usually show her as a hostage. Greg Rucka did some cool stuff with her as a war reporter, but I still think we miss a bet when we don't have her as the reporter that CEOs and Senators and Mafia bosses would most hate to see show up at their doorway.

You can change that. Six issues. Maybe some of that Lois + Wonder Woman stuff from... god, I forget the era, but you know, you remember the Wondy Was Awesome posts.

... actually, that sounds awesome. I don't think Lois has actually ever had a miniseries. She'd never had an action figure till '04, or so, when there was a TRU exclusive TAS box set.

By which I mean, you know, Lois goes in investigating for some reason, runs into Wonder Woman, also investigating for some reason, Lois is just _better_ at figuring things out, breaks the news, it's a sucker play, Wondy mops up the thugs that come at her. Or something. Two women, equals in some ways, not equals in others, both with ties through the same man in different ways. Two women who really respect each other but are horribly different.

(all rights, as always, reversed.)
