Punisher #10

The Hood offers to bring back Punisher's family and Microchip's son if he kills G.W. Bridge. Frank refuses, so Microchip shoots Bridge in the head himself.

The Punisher and the Hood battle. The Hood is about to kill Frank, when Frank reveals there's an envelope with Sarah's (the mother of the Hood's child) name in it, and if he doesn't retrieve it it'll be sent to Wilson Fisk. The Hood lets him go.

Unlike most of the gang over at BLACKEST NIGHT, Frank knows right away that just there are some reanimated corpses moving doesn't mean those "things" are really his family. This is also known as the Whedon Vampire Defense.

We've already seen the Hood bring back Microchip and those villains.

Well, just because they look like Micro and the villains and are inhabiting their corpses doesn't mean they "really are" Micro and the villains.

Ok, I sent Remender an e-mail asking "When the Hood resurrects people, is he really bringing them back to life? Or is there like a catch, like they have no soul or something?", and he responded "Black magic. No way to know."

A bit of irony hits when you remember Frank is going to become a reanimated corpse next month.

Frank torching zombies doesn't really seem like one of the worst things that he has ever done

They weren't zombies though. It was his actually ressurected family he just burnt alive.

Look at his face he's horrified, I'm to give Frank the benefit of the doubt here since we don't see his family's full faces, I envision them as having soulless black pet cemetery-esqe eyes.

have they been themselves or do they get reversed Lazarus pit personalities? And hasn't The Hood's source of magic changed recently? Regardless though there has never been any doubt in my mind that Frank is crazy.

No, I don't think their personalities have changed.

Remender said he wanted it to be ambiguous as to why he killed his family.

"It seemed important to me that readers draw their own conclusions for why Frank did what he did. Did he force Firebrand to end his family because he knew they were full of evil thanks to the Hood's magics? Or did he have them incinerated because he no longer felt he could be part of their world?"

I'd say that was an excellent call, too bad we probably won't get to dig deeper into Frank's psyche now that he's been sushi'ed

You know Punisher is going down the tubes when he's getting older in style than Mack Bolan/Executioner, The Penetrator, Destroyer, and all those other "Post-modern" pulps.

While I am not especially enamored of the direction Punisher has been going in, I have to admit that Frank torching his family -- to the appalled shock of the villain -- is brilliant.

seems in character

This doesn't seem too out of character for me. The Punisher is nuts. Crazy as a coconut. I'd say, at this point, he's more obsessed with the idea of his family than he is having them back.

I don't like this (reminds me of the awful WAR ZONE movie), but it is Frank.

If one supposes, even for a moment, that the folks the Hood is bringing back to life are actually those folks and not just soulless zombies... then Frank is over as a character.

To paraphrase Rorscharch "Never compromise. Even in the face of Ressurection."

Okay, about the Hood, when are they going to let the real Tigra castrate, eviscerate and then defenestrate this jackass?

Frank said that when he was briefly a Spectre-ish Heaven-empowered thingamajig, he saw that his family were in Paradise.

Can't really blame him for wanting them to stay there, considering what the Marvel Universe is like from Frank's perspective.

Hm, Ennis referenced it in the first Marvel Knights storyline, and that itself got referenced recently.

So I guess so, yeah.

Well, that was just stupid. It's comics, of course people can be brought back to life. Frank should have been glad and welcomed them back.

on the plus side, Frank's horrified expression made me giggle.
