Blackest Night: Titans #3

This is from Blackest Night: Titans #3. It's written by  J.T. Krul and illustrated by Ed Benes.

Continuing from where the preview left off...

Later, all the Black Lanterns swarm over Dove, who emits a white light that severs the connection between the Lanterns and destroys them. The Black Lanterns of Terra, Tempest, and Hank Hall manage to escape, however.

Okay, all jokes about Terry to one side, that page of Donna "killing" the baby is horrible and heartbreaking at the same time.

Motto. I cringed, and kudos to the artist for -for once in this arc- understating the gore and instead focusing on Donna.

I know offering fanfiction is really dumb. But jesus if you really need Teen Titans stories just read this http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4778437/1/These_Black_Eyes
and try and block out this.

...Yeah, that moment kinda messed with me when I read it. It's really messed up, but Donna does come off as pretty strong by the end of this mini.

Damn, I overlooked this. I guess the white light of creation won't just bring characters back then. Or maybe it has to be more focused.

It really sucks to be Donna, doesn't it?

That said, the scene where she kills her baby was perfect. It was just so heart-breaking. I was never a particular fan of Donna Troy before, but I'm thinking about changing that.

I would really love that "Terry is dead to me," take this moment if it weren't for the ridiculous cleavage.

God I hate this version of Donna Troy's costume.

Ok, I might be alone here, but I really really really don't like the "Terry is dead to me!" line. Maybe because the fandom hate for Terry is totally new to me (I read the NTT before I really got into the fandom side of comics) but I always thought that the backstory of Terry and Robert made Donna into a much more interesting, well-rounded character. I mean, think about it. Comic characters as a whole, and the Teen Titans specifically, rarely get very far in romantic relationships to maintain the status quo.

Dick's been engaged twice (and married once, but let's not talk about that). Gar apparently never really get past Terra. Vic had two serious relationships which are both gone now. Roy had a kid, but he doesn't get any stability in his relationships! I don't think Kory has had any long-term relationship besides Dick. Raven is a de-aged 2-dimensional mess, so I guess she can make out with Gar if she wants. I'm not going to go into the new guys, I don't have the energy.

Donna had a stable, good relationship with a non-superhero. Sure, he was older, and they did eventually divorce. But it lasted long enough to make her unique and interesting, and I wish that side of her was explored more often, but it seems here like it's going to be unmentionable from now on. (still part of continuity, but might as well not be.)

Also, I miss her Jimenez-era outfit. The plunging neckline is everywhere, but she was the only one with a halter top!

Oh, wow. Sorry for the ranting. The Titans are just frustrating me these days.

This. This. This is the Donna Troy I freakin' ADORE. And God, I teared up at her saying the memories were poisoned -- because it's true. How do you get over something like that? Her taking out Robert ... honestly just was too much for me. I'm not even ready to reread that scene.

Her strength and the way she leads and talks to Dove is awe inspiring to me. Her and Dove will make a kickass team. I remember why I'm such a huge Troy fan, now.

And the Gar/Tara in this issue was GREAT.

I'll just admit it right now: I hates me some zombies, and destroying those unholy abominations brings me joy like little else, but I would have trouble killing a baby. Particularly by crushing its skull between my palms. And if it were the zombie of my dead baby? Damn. I dunno. I might have to give that job to someone else while I went into a different room.

So, uh, yay Donna, I guess. That's hella cold. But it needed to be done, and she did it herself without asking anyone else to take that responsibility from her, so she's got my respect. Also, my fear. Also, I'm glad I don't have to kill any babies.

Anyone notice the significance of the Titan Zombies left alive?
1) Terra - who we know will be showing up in Outsiders to mess with Geo-Force's mind (we know the writers wouldn't miss a chance to do that - particularly Tomasi who is so deep in this event)

2) Tempest - who I, like many others, expect at least to get resurrected. And who will probably show up again in Blackest Night proper. Honestly once Damage was killed by Jean in BN#4 that should have sealed the deal. Johns likes Grant too much (he's the one who put him on JSA) and they've developed him too much for that.

3) Hank Hall - Dove I/Don appears to Dove II/Dawn in this issue and tells her that she can save Hank. This after she's dusted (literally) who her Zombified sister - which sets the stage for Hank's return as Hawk (though I don't know how they''ll get past him killing the GA JSA as Extant in Zero Hour).
