"You'll only need icons for SD," she says, as though that indicates some minimal investment. I have 60 icons on this account, I use every single one of them at least once a month and a good 40 of them weekly, and the only thing I have ever done with my IJ account is post and comment to S_D.
members create a ridiculous amount of mistags every day
I think a lot of that is down to the excessive (and I still maintain needless) complexity of the current tag system. And the entire fun of a silly tag is the spontaneity of it and the ability for anyone who sees the post to immediately go "lol whut 'ocelots don't work that way,' wtf?", an entertainment already basically killed by the "in-joke" prefix. You'll note the stark reduction in joke tags from our old incarnation, even though we've got infinite tagging here. And again, the ability to see a post on a character, be interested in that character and just one-click look at a whole page of tagged entries at once right here on the journal is vastly superior to having to leave the site to a picture-less, abbreviated description list on Delicious to even look for tags to begin with.
And invite codes... people don't like invite codes. They don't know how they work and don't care to figure them out. It's a clumsy system no matter how helpful we try to be about it. That's good for Dth, because they don't want to grow too fast and are looking to build a community. That's bad for us, because we already have a community that we don't want to split, and our number one need is for content, so anything that makes it harder for people to provide that content hurts us.
I mean, it'd be nice to be somewhere where the servers stopped being so bloody robust all the time, but Dth is missing some really key features for a creature like S_D.
