I've got a Dth, which I don't use, and some invite codes which I never handed out, so I could roll, I like the ethos there, and the superior coding, and the greater legal protections, but, three serious problems spring immediately to mind:
- Icons - Tags - Money
Dth does not offer nearly enough of the first two, and asks too much of the third. You can't just pick up a Dth account - you need to pay or get an invite, which is a hassle and a barrier to entry that will drive a lot of people off. If you do pay, the cost of your account actually rises over time, which may be logical from a resource perspective but punishes loyal customers. As for tags, we've already done a lot to kill the joy of tagging here over our old LJ incarnation, but it's at least still an easy community effort that anyone can contribute to with a single click when they see a post that could use it, and which allows one-click navigation or easy ctrl+F two-click navigation without ever leaving the S_D site and format. Delicious makes a good addition to, but it's no sound replacement for.
It may be a legal and defensive step up, but it's a performative and interactive step down.
